Just a load of bull this is.  The League wants all Canadian teams at full capacity so to compensate the lower earning teams with revenue sharing. The canucks even at 50% capacity is still more than Buffalo draws.  Why is Buffalo still playing???

This was our owner, and not the league.  Bill Daly said only yesterday the game was on.  Our owner nixed the game.  He wants full capacity.

Why would FA nix the game?  That would be like Russian Roulette!  He may not get the opportunity to make the game up. Maybe his financial advisor informed him that he could claim the loss of revenue and claim 51% plus back in taxes!

I don’t think it’s the league’s choice. But that’s not confirmed.

Rumors are that Aquilini cancelled/postponed the game. Not making money, and who can blame him. At the end of the day this is a business for the man, and having it at half capacity just ain’t cutting it for him. But hey, I figured that maybe 50 percent is better than 0.

As a result of just pushing games back, the team is going to have a ton of games in a short period of time, just like they did a few years back, and they didn’t do that well in that spell of games if I recall correctly. So I can’t imagine that’s going to be to the team’s advantage.

Well, this season might as well be a write off, considering everything that’s going on with players (Petey in particular), the world, covid issues, etc, etc. It was depressing when we didn’t have games at all, so I guess can still follow along with some sort of hockey being played in the US - those crazy bastards down south.

that is kind of what I was thinking

I heard Bill Daly say the game would go ahead, yesterday on Donnie +D

it seems short sighted to

A cram too many games in at the end of the season

B head into this road trip rusty

makes me wonder if JR is on board

Maybe JR thinks , ' oh no, I work for a penny wise pound foolish owner'

or

maybe JR thinks its better to pull the plug now, so he can sell at the deadline and do a proper build

those would be my thoughts if I were in JR's shoes

the real problem with the JB era was that Jim was always trying to speed things up

maybe JR sees this quick start as a detriment to his long term success

With the team playing uncharacteristically hot, its almost like he took over the 2017 Vegas Knights without all the sweet advantages

Can that tag be changed to NOT Gameday?

I just watched yesterdays Donnie and Dhali show and heard guest Bill Daly.

Daly said he thought the game would go ahead because Ottawa needed to play games or get too far behind the rest of the league.

today the game gets postponed.

It is posted on NHL,com and the headline is NHL postpones game.

the Canucks are part of the NHL.

So my question is, is this the Canucks decision, the Senators, or that of the league?

A look at the standings and GP the Lightning and Knights have 36-37 GP with 2 PPD

at the other end the Isle and Sens have played 28 and 29 games the Sens have had 10 PPD

The Canucks are in the middle in a group of 11 teams that have played 34 games. they have had 6 games PPD

Daly said that at this point they have rescheduled all of the PPD games but that the are running out of RUNWAY to reschedule games

that was before VAN-OTT gets postponed today

At what point do Ottawa and the Isles turn into Vancouver and Calgary of last season , playing games after the playoffs have started?

that was a bad look, and one you would thinkj the NHL would not like to repeat

thoughts?

This is going to make the trade deadline interesting.. We could get to the trade deadline with a 10 game disparity between teams. It will throw a wrench into the decision making process of management.

Further evidence that this season is an absolute gong show.

...and last year... and the year before... so fed up.

I live a 20 minute drive from the US border. Right across that line, life goes on in a relatively normal manner. Why are we so different?

Same reason why in the US they have 3x our death rate for Covid.  They have freeDUMBs.

Hey Imm, I don't think we're anywhere near the point of last year ... yet. While the situation is definitely alarming I figure if they start allowing full capacity by even Feb 7th it'll be no problem whatsoever. The Olympic break starts Feb 2nd so if we could hypothetically play make-up games on the 8th, 10th, 11th, 13th, 16th 18th, and 20th that would make up 7 of the 12 (7 games currently + 5 more Canada games between now and Feb 1st) postponed games. That would leave 5 games to make up over the rest of the year. They can also cancel the All Star game and push the season end date a week or two, so that's totally doable without the schedule becoming unreasonable.

As far as who cancelled the game it simply doesn't matter at all. It was done in conjunction for reasons above our purview and all parties signed off on it. It's cancelled, that's what matters.

As you mention Vancouver is just fine in their number of games played, the sit right in the upper middle of the pack. The biggest problem for the NHL will be the Canadian team(s) with the least amount of games played. Right now that will be solely Ottawa with 28. Toronto is next at 32, and Calgary 33. Obviously Ottawa is going to have a tough time .., maybe it's good they are sucking anyway as the NHL can just get their games "done". The Isles should be fine in the long run.

I'll include my screen shot of the slot created by the cancelled Olympics.

I don't think the owners have the ability to shut a game down. Only the league does. They could ask, I suppose but the league does the schedule and there is more than one team involved.

This game getting postponed is 100% from our owner.  He’s expecting this Omicron wave to be fast to come and fast to go.  So he’s hoping for a full rink in mid February.  This is the same owner that zipped up the purse on Benning, so we lost Tanev and Tofu.
