True on both parts. Trochek could be a possibility since Carolina is gonna be pretty cap strapped and they’ll be focused on getting Necas locked up. Nichushkin has really come into his own and I doubt Colorado let’s him walk if they have a say in it.

Yeah, it will all come down to cost, especially for Nichushkin. I suspect priority #1 will be to re-sign Kuemper, after what happened last year. But they might still have no issue keeping VN if they let guys like Kadri and Burakovsky walk.

I think they were quite happy with Hamonic. A trade that seemed to work out for both parties. It’s nice that they have a working relationship. Maybe a signed Boeser or Garland for the 7th overall pick. Could be huge for us if we managed to pull off a trade like that while keeping the 15th overall. Get Jiricek at 7th and Mintyukov at 15th and our defence is set!

Our cap situation would also be fixed.  Hell, we could even take a 2-3 mil salary back without worrying too much about it.

No team was willing to offer a 1st for Garland per Sat Shah.  Benning gave up 9th overall but was also dumping considerable cap.

Boudreau called Garland a 3rd liner on a podcast.  He is not really a finisher.

Fwiw Dorion has travelled over a couple of times to watch Wild games although the season series was already over - it's believed that he's been scouting Fiala.  Garrioch has also been name dropping him regularly.  NJD also on the ranks per Marek.

for sure all things being equal you'd take Fiala over Garland, but would Fiala want to sign a deal to stay in Ottawa long term? I can't see that being Fiala's dream destination.

Garland tho can play in the top 6 (particularly in Ottawa where F depth is so thin) and is cost controlled, and has no NTC.

Water is wet.

What cap situation?

Theres a big OEL deal but hes not a bum. Dumped in a few years and we lose a pick big whoop tough guy this is a cap world.

Myers has a big deal that will expire when Petey and Podz need to re-up. He also happens to have a very tradable contract after July.

There is no die hard cap situation compared to the cap hell we just got out of.

I was replying to someone that mentioned Brock.

The market will be wildly different from the trade deadline to the summer.

If we don't have Brock on the team, we would replace him with a cheaper player and be sitting with a 4-5 million cushion under the cap.

15 oa + Garland plus 3rd in 2023

For 7 oa

Why would we do that?

15 + Garland + 3rd (2023) to move up to 7?  Am I reading your suggestion wrong?  Because it reads as kind of nuts.

There's a couple defenseman around 7 that can help us now.

At 7 they are not helping next season they will be developing.

we have horvat, Hughes, podz, Boeser, Miller,Hogz entering their prime years, they are not getting younger.

trade the 1rst for some help now.

it’s go time.

110% agree.  I’d put Hogz on that trade list too.

Re-sign Miller

Re-sign Bo

Re-sign Bess

Bring back our whole extended core.

Move picks and Hogz, Dipietro, Woo to dumperoo Dickinson, Poolman, and acquire depth (28-32 year old proven heavy body guys).

Go hard for the next four years.

Then ... KABOOM!

Sure..if you're goal is to get bounced in the first round lol. What do you think the 15th overall can get us that can fit under our cap?

Ok Weisbrod… we were wondering where you went.

We aren’t following your dumb plan anymore.  Listen the grown ups running the place now.  They have made it crystal clear over and over again saying they want to get younger and don’t want to trade the chance for long term success by sacrificing the future even more.
