Great big mad bastards are invaluable when 'push comes to shove' and "One step beyond" (Madness). You're not getting that kind of push back from anybody else besides Schenn. So he's only valuable if we get to the playoffs? So spend $6m per just in case, and pray that he wakes up? Yeah.....dunno about that haha

He is also holding down a position at which we are woefully weak. The game changes so much once the playoffs start. The physicality is ramped way up. The refs put the whistles away (and let 'the Prongers' play 'their game'). Can't win The Cup without winning in the playoffs, and can't win them without getting in them. I am not in favour of not trying to get in the playoffs; even when CDC pundits think we have no chance there. Remember the beast Myers was in our last playoffs?

If we can add Lyubushkin as a Myers replacement, he'd be younger, cheaper, better defensively and more consistently physical while opening up OEL to play more offense. 1

I'd do 1 year 2.5m tops though. $775k. 1 year 2.5M would be a good win win for both parties, potentially as low as 2 million.

Lyubushkin has shown that he and OEL are not a good pairing. They played together a lot in 2020/21. OEL + Lyu at even strength in 2020/21: GA/60 = 2.95, GF/60 = 1.27 OEL + Myers at even strength in 2021/22: GA/60 = 2.27, GF/60 = 2.39 He'd be cheaper than Myers, but not better defensively, and not able to free up OEL to play more offense.

How much of that was a function of the team they were on and that OEL was miserable in Arizona? Yeah, I'm pretty sure he could.

I'm sure a couple of younger hard working dmen can replace what he brings for far less money, and complement our more skilled offensive D better at the same time. He will never be able to out muscle guys but his skating and stick allow him to take pucks off guys and he's generally got the puck when he's on the ice (according to his fancy stats)... To say he's not a Hedman is a bit silly given his size. We know what we have with him and clearly size will always have an impact. It doesn't mean his not a number one. He's just not a PERFECT dman like Hedman who's got EVERYTHING, because of his size. Hedman wasn’t a #1 OA himself….

Colorado's D core is maybe a hair taller on average than our roster. The regulars anyway. Hunt kinda brings down our average but ideally he should never sniff the NHL roster. Tampa's roster is kinda big. A lot of 6'3 or taller guys. But Sergachev isn't known to be a physical specimen. Neither is Jan Rutta. Honestly, looking at a lot of the playoff teams. Our average height on defense was around the average heights of the playoff teams. Our issue isn't size. It's talent. We have three good defenders and realistically one good forward line plus Horvat. Jan Rutta 31 6' 2" 211 lbs Mikhail Sergachev 6' 3", 217 lbs Tampa D men make the Canucks D men look like the 98 lb weakling at the beach.

Toews and Makar are 190 and 185 respectively. And they are dominating Tampa. We need to find another Tanev and the Hughes and thatguy would dominate. We saw Hughes with Tanev and it’s dominating. Just have to find another guy like that. Thanks Benning.
