Funny how Simashev has all of sudden jumped up on people's radar. Lots of talk of moving down to get an additional pick. I remember few years ago there was lots of talk about Seider being available from 12-18 and in the end he went 6th. If Canucks are really high on Simashev (as I am) then you go with your pick. Don't worry about where rankings have him.

Agreed we should just draft him. We should only move down if by the 11th pick we have 4 players on our list that we are still okay to take.

I wouldn't be surprised if Simashev is taken much earlier like Seider was. And it would suck if Canucks pass on him.

I'm on the Simashev train like many others but listening to Craig Button on DOnnie and Dhali today was somewhat surprising. Button sees ASP and Willander as surefire top pairing defenders but sees Simashev as a tier below them, mainly offensively. He did say he is a big defensive D who skates very well, which is what we are after IMO. We already have Hronek and Hughes to push the pace offensively. We need some solid, stay at home D with size that can play in this quick, modern game. This is why I hope we can land him, should he be available for us at 11.

I respect Buttons opinion but also don't know how he is projecting Simashev. Is it based on video? Based on points? Even though the points don't really show much he showed a much improved statistical profile in the latter half of the year and from short snippets of video I see a confident prospect who can dangle around players with his skating and puck handling abilities. Yes his shot is weak but is easily something he can work on plus he has frame to add power. To be totally honest his combination of size and skating is such a unicorn I almost don't see any way he doesn't become minimum top three defenseman. His potential to be a solid d man with 30-40 points is enough to justify an 11th overall pick. If he ends up being a Chris Tanev type player I'd still argue it's worth 11th overall

Had no idea Bedard was so small. I wonder if that will scare anyone off?

Too much skill I think for that? Think an insanely skilled cliff ronning, I'm crossing my fingers for Reinbacher, mocks have him going to Philly but knowing the draft board can go, I'd be happy to have a top pairing potential prospect who is big, skilled, and can really skate and we all know we lack that.. paying for a top pairing D in the next while is out of our cap range, a guy like him on a ELC is exactly what the Dr ordered!

If we get a shot at him and we pick someone else, especially a forward.. omfg!

Mock drafts have been all over the place this year, as well.  I’d still bet dollars to donuts true c’s and d get taken earlier than wings - so yes.  If Simashev’s your guy just take him at 11 if he isn’t already gone.

Danielson!  Good sized centre...toe drag specialist...just like Bo was.

Danielson’s my horse in this race.  He’s gotten stuck with the tired old “high floor so he must have a low ceiling” trope but I think some of that is pure narrative.

He has all the tools to be a quality, match up 2C and that’s worth its weight in gold. I think there’s a very good chance someone snaps him up in the top 10 though.

Really want to grab this kid with a late draft pick. From my hometown of Fort St James and is a big LD who plays hard.

Would love to see more local BC kids drafted

It would be so cool to see a prospect like him develop into a Radkon Gudas-type if all the stars aligned.

Just watched a clip of Elite Prospects' Cam Robinson on Sekeres and Price. They did a mock draft for picks 1-11.

For Canucks' 11th pick, they each pick a different for the sake of being different.

Robinson - Benson

Price - Simashev

Sekeres - Willander

This is my top 3. I hope this happens.

Robinson said he doesn't think Canucks will draft Danielson for the same reasons said by many here - safe pick but low ceiling and at 11th there are better choices. He also made a great point about the teams draft philosophy. He thought Lekkerimaki was a boom or bust pick last year (you may or may not agree), and that's also consistent with what PA said to the scouts in one of the Canucks videos.

I'm so excited for tomorrow's draft...don't disappoint me please.

I agree with these 3.

Everyone is so hung up on the theory that the Canucks are high on Danielson but a few of the players they took out for dinner they could have been in case of a trade down situation

From what I’ve read, Danielson is to C as Willander and Simashev are to D.

Bigger bodied, very mobile, defence-first players with the only thing holding them from being surefire top 10 selections is that their offensive ceilings are questionable.

Willander and Danielson are both right handed but Simashev is a true big man at 6’4 compared to 6’2.

In fairness to Danielson, his team sucked so he didn’t get to play with elite line mates and if anything that’s hope towards him having another gear offensively.

And with the 11th pick in the 2023 NHL draft, the Vancouver Canucks select:

MATTHEW WOOD

Dunno Brother

I really believe that the talent outside of the top 4 is all over the place.

Even Smith isn't a lock for top 5 talent wise IMO, and others.

Arguments can be made for and against the next 15 odd players.

Then the next 30 odd players, arguments can be made for and against drafting them between 20 - 50.

It's one of those drafts that you see what unfolds as it happens IMO.

Of course you have players that you target, and hopefully one of our higher targets drops to us.

Personally I hope all of Simashev, ASP, Reinbacher and Willander all go top 10, that means we are going to get a great centre prospect.

Won't happen but I can hope, and then Dvorsky will almost certainly fall to us.

I am so high on this kid.

Apart from his talent, it's his work ethic and drive that I believe will help him achieve his ceiling.

There are some potentially good big RHD that may be available in the third round.

Certainly not stars, but big bodied shut down defence men.

Would love to have a Tanev type with some snarl that is.. plus another 2" taller and 20 pounds heavier.. wait, that sounds too good... Ok so I'm dreaming but if anyone is close to that, it's Reinbacher with more speed than Tanev, snarl? Not sure about that one, but we need a bigger faster D who likes hitting and separating a forward from the puck and good gap control/position but I have this sinking feeling of knowing our luck.. :(

However! I'll have my fingers crossed, toes if I could!
