Just lock the f**king thing already.

We have past moment the moment of rebuilding and there’s no trade out there for Miller that makes this team better next year.

That's not necessarily true. We could easily "Horvat" him for a bunch of assets and flip some of those for pieces we need (ala Hronek).

That said, it's an all but foregone conclusion that he's now here for the foreseeable future.

who says we aren't re building? We have 6M cap space with a 17 man roster and a D  that consists of

Hughes Hronek

Brize Myers

and the OEL buyout penalty looming next year.

Yup. With this coaching staff and a new leadership group emerging now that Bo is gone, I think we are going to see a determined JT night in and night out, still prone to moments of angst, yet dialed down as he learns to control his emotions and release them in more mature ways. He is going to be a driver for us and I am excited to have him on this roster for the forseeable future.

Got a lot more than 6 million after LTIR and saying goodbye to Bear and Dermott.

We traded high picks for a top 4 RD and bought out OEL for the purpose of creating cap to add more players to help us compete.

That still doesn’t guarantee that it makes us a better team next year. To replace Miller’s output would require significant additions that might take more than an off-season to acquire.

Perhaps further down the line depending on the assets back but management’s focus in on next year.

I was team trade Miller and rebuild on the fly but management made their decision to compete now. Any trade would have to make us better next year and I don’t see it possible that quickly personally.

Sign Compher, move some of the assets for "now" players... Voila replaced production. It's not actually that hard, particularly with how tight cap still is. We could easily have added Hall, for basically no assets for example.

But yes, management picked their horse. We're likely now on this ride until it's time to get off, way down the line.

Compher could be pricey as he’s one of the top guys, it could eat up a lot of what we already pay in Miller’s new deal and it can take a while to find the right deals for the right players that fit in well. Not everything lines up perfectly.

Getting players with having had off-years that weren’t on par with their cap hits on a record breaking team wouldn’t be my go to example.

We also then have to consider what market would be out there for Miller when we’re in an off-season where players are more readily available both with teams looking to trade guys out at a less than ideal market value due to cap restraints and in free agency.

All things considered I reckon nobody would be lining up to pay enough of a premium to warrant a trade for us to consider. The better time would have been prior to this offseason.

Like I said, I agree the ship has almost certainly sailed.

Exactly. Millar would have been a good trade before the OEL buyout.... particularly if Millar was the sweetener to take OEL. but now, f**k no. and now his new deal is locked in, we shoud just make him captain.
