Overview

 

It was all smiles last game, with Silovs earning his first win, Pettersson picking up 5 points and Kuzmenko introducing everyone to banana pepsi power. Tonight the Canucks need to get back to business - tanking business that is. The NHL gods have blessed the Canucks of late with Shark, Blackhawk and Columbus victories putting a high draft pick within reach. Will the Canucks take it or settle for point gaining morale wins that are pointless. Some could argue that this late season wins means the team is building to bigger things in which case I'd like to introduce you to a man named Bruce.

 

For the predators, the playoffs seem a dying hope. They are 10 points out of the last wildcard spot and have many teams in front. Their leading scorer, Forsberg is out and won't play tonight and they've been led in scoring and everything else by Josi. Their other notable player is goaltender Saros who has had a good season despite the down year for the team. The Predators lost their last game in the final 21 seconds and will be eager to win tonight or else open the floodgates for trades.

 

For the Canucks their lines should match the Philadelphia game. Over their last 5 games their leaders have been Pettersson (5G, 6A), Beauvillier (4G,2A), Kuzmenko (2G,2A), Hughes (0G, 5A) and Miller (1G,4A). Delia, Silovs and Demko are on the roadtrip but Demko is not expected to start. We will probably see Delia in net tonight.  

 

MATCH-UP INFO

  • Tonight marks the second of three meetings between the Canucks and Predators this season: Nov. 5 (4-3 SOL @ VAN), Feb. 21 (away) and Mar. 6 (home).

  • Vancouver is 45-28-2-6 all-time against Nashville, including a 22-15-1-3 record on the road.

  • The Canucks are 5-3-2 in their last 10 games against the Predators, including 2-2-1 in their last five.

  • Oliver Ekman-Larsson leads all active Canucks skaters in career points against the Predators with 17 (6-11-17) in 34 games.

Predator notes:

 

  • Goaltender Juuse Saros is 17-10-4 with a 2.63 goals-against average and .923 save percentage in his last 31 games dating back to Nov. 12. His 17 wins in that time frame are tied for the seventh-most in the NHL. He's made at least 30 saves in 18 of his last 30 games; he's faced at least 30 shots in 23 of those outings.
  • Roman Josi owns the Predators team lead in points with 49 (15g-34a). He has 45 points (14g-31a) in his last 45 games after tallying two points on Sunday at Minnesota (1g-1a). Josi has recorded at least one point in 17 of his last 21 contests, and he posted a season-high six-game point streak from Jan. 21-Feb. 13 (1g-7a). His 15 goals are the third-most by an NHL defenseman this season.
  • Matt Duchene has 22 points (11g-11a) in his last 26 games, including his first multi-goal game of the season on Jan. 24 vs. Los Angeles. He's recorded points in six of his last eight games (6g-3a), tallying multiple points in three of those outings.
  • Tommy Novak has 16 points (7g-9a) in 23 games with Nashville since being recalled from Milwaukee (AHL) on Dec. 19. He recorded his first career multi-goal game on Saturday vs. Florida (2g) and followed it up with a season-high three points on Sunday at Minnesota (1g-2a).
  • Jeremy Lauzon's 95 hits since Dec. 27 are tied for the third-most in the NHL, bolstered by his nine on Feb. 11 at Philadelphia and Jan. 14 vs. Buffalo, the most in a game by a Predators player this season and tied for the third-most in a game in franchise history.
  • Ryan Johansen, a Vancouver native, owns 15 points (4g-11a) in 31 career games against his hometown team. He has four points (3g-1a) in his last eight games vs. Vancouver.
  • North Vancouver native Colton Sissons has seven points (4g-3a) in 18 career games against the Canucks.
  • Dante Fabbro hails from Coquitlam, B.C., and has two assists in seven career games vs. Vancouver.
  • Josi has points in five of his last seven games (1g-4a) against Vancouver. He also has 14 points (1g-13a) in his last 16 games vs. the Canucks and posted a six-game point streak (7a) against Vancouver from Jan. 10, 2017-Dec. 13, 2018.
  • Mikael Granlund is producing at close to a point-per-game pace in his career against the Canucks, recording 23 points (5g-18a) in 27 games. He posted a four-game point streak vs. Vancouver from Nov. 12, 2019-Nov. 5, 2021 (2g-4a) and established a career-high four points (3g-1a) on Feb. 4, 2017 against the Canucks.

GAWDZUKES'S BO TRADE NYI PICK WATCH

 

If Islanders finish in the top-16 then they are outside the lottery and Canucks take their pick in the 2023 draft.

If Islanders finish between 17-32 in regular seasons standings (1-16 in draft) then they enter the draft lottery.

    -  If they won the lottery drawing in the first or second drawing then they would move up 10 spots and then the Canucks pick gets moved to the 2024 draft unless the Flyers waive their top 12 protection.

    -  If they don't get chosen in the 2 drawings and pick at spots 13 to 16 then the Canucks get their pick in the 2023 draft.

    -  If they don't get chosen in the 2 drawings and pick at spots 1 to 12 then the Canucks pick gets moved to the 2024 draft unless the Flyers waive their top 12 protection.

I truly love the team even though I haven't been watching their games of late for obvious reasons... and because I love this team so so much, I am hoping they will just keep on losing...  I know most players would hate that feeling but hey, aren't you used to it by now? there is ZERO incentives to win games now... it's fun to score goals but for there is no point for defense and goalies to give 100%.

 

If we magically landed Bedard, our successful rebuild will get a huge boost by 3+ years or more!!!!!

Honestly, even Fantilli or Carlsson will fast track our rebuild. Fantilli is Modano lite and Carlsson is Malkin lite. Very deep draft.
