So Petey could realistically be under 10 per in his extension.

9.5 x 8 years

meier is 2 years older, a winger, and provides substantially less offense. there's a lot more than a $1 mil difference. try $3 mil.

His agent said they were looking in the range of Barzal money which was 9.15. Factor in some appreciation of cap and that would be in the 9.5 - 10 million range.

If you look at Tkachuk at 9.5 with 109 points, I would say that 9.5 is probably about right, factoring in home town discount.

Remember, they can't even really talk about this until July 1st, but if they could do something anywhere between 9.5 and 10 for 8 seasons, I'd just lock it in, he's worth spending that type of money with.

Meier was one of NJD's best player against NYR while not having a single point.  He got under their skin and threw them off their game.  There have been games in NJD where he doesn't get on the scoresheet but the goals don't happen without him because he's at the net screening the goalie or distracting the Ds.

Wonder if Canucks would look at trading for RFA McLeod & rights to Graves.

See if we can convince Graves to sign a two-year ‘Gold Star deal’ 2 years x $5.5M, with an opportunity to resign another deal after the cap jumps up?

McLeod seems high risk with the Hockey Canada investigation, but have seen a case made for him in a few articles recently

They are trying to extend Graves and McLeod played C3/C4 for them.  McLeod is RFA so would expect them to get a deal done rather than create a hole in their lineup.

and petey is a top nhl two-way forward. there's a chasm between the two.

NJD have $23m in cap space with 14 players signed.  They will need a minimum of $17 million to re-sign Graves, Meier and McLeod.  They don't have the cap space to sign all 3.  They also need to re-sign Bahl.  Are they planning to trade Bahl then to re-sign Graves?  I'm assuming Luke Hughes is on the team next season and probably Nemec too.

They also need a goalie if they want to compete for a cup.  Not sure it's smart to load up on everything else and then hope and pray Schmid is the guy in the playoffs going for the cup...

So Horvat set the market for everyone else, go figure.  The 8.5x8 contract will officially forever be known as the BO special...

Meier had a 10M qualifying offer.  With NJD taking him to arbitration to by-pass that qualifying offer he was going to get at least 1 year at 8.5M in arbitration.

Bahl not going to cost all that much just yet unless they go longer term.

Graves is asking for too much right now and he might end up UFA.  McLeod is RFA - no reason for them to trade him.

NJD still such a young team.  This was the 1st taste of the playoffs for so many players and they still have to figure out how to be effective in the post-season.  Going all in is premature.  Schmid might just be their starter when they go all in but probably needs another year in Utica.

NJD convincing players to take reasonable deals vs trying to get every crumb they can get.

This was the key to the Canucks last winning team.  A bunch of guys making half a million or more below full market value adds up to a couple of other high end players.

Conversely, a bunch of guys making a million more than they are worth kills your chance to be competitive really quickly.

If a team is spending to the cap, it seems like like players should realize that, rather than wonder why they didn’t win and sign $1 million contracts at the end of their careers in vain hopes for a Cup.

The difference between $60 million and $70 million in career earnings isn’t going to change their lives or their kids’ lives very much.  Spending your career on a team that is a perennial winner, rather than bottom feeder certainly does change your life.
