Lil Cody's racking up a pretty bad rep rather quickly in this league.

Send him to Philly.

Had 10 NHL goals - agent compares him to Steven Stamkos.

Had 25 NHL points - wanted Kesler's ice time.

Has 77 career points - wants a bigger payday than a Kesler, a premier two way Selke winner who has five 20 goal seasons, a 40 goal season, 57.4 % in the faceoff circle, etc.

Why did MG trade 'our next captain'?

Only bad rep he's got is from this forum I would guess.

Hodgson has great skill and hands. A good playmaker. if Buffalo, a non contender, wants to keep him in the post-Pominville era, then they'll need to pay up. I think he can easily slot in at #1 over there and should get paid at least 4 mill if it's short term.

So your entire argument is based on the fact that he doesn't have as many points?
Maybe because he's only had two full seasons.

How is he doing anything different than dozens of other players? They want to play him as 1st line center but not pay him like one..

Still just an awful trade, after seeing how MG talks in circles and can't be trusted I don't buy a single word of the COHO attitude problems.

AHAHA! But I thought MG threw him under the bus! Isn't that what I keep hearing? :bigblush:

He is their #1 center.. outscored OUR entire team in his second full year in the league..Why the F would he ever accept 4 years at 3.25 mill. when 3rd liners are signing deals for 7 years 5+ million right now.

You get paid based on production not where you are in the lineup. Also most guys comin off their ELC dont have the balls to ask for established player money without breakout seasons.

In all fairness when Kesler signed his contract he had not yet scored 41 goals, had not yet won a Selke, had not yet made an all star team. He signed this during the 09-10 season when the salary cap was 56.8 million which obviously had lower player caps and obviously had players demanding less money then. It should also be noted that Kesler wanted 5.5 million per year but was talked down some.

In other words you can't compare the situations because had Kesler been a FA this offseason he would be asking for a lot more than he did back then.

I'd say playing first line minutes and outscoring Henrik, daniel sedin, burrows and Kesler is a breakout season

yes but being 'far off'? lol

how about 3 years at 4 ? that's fair and not far off.

my guess is the little punk is asking for 6 years at 5.5 to 6

Yeah, he resigned at the end of a 75 point season - after two previous 20 goal seasons - and let's not reduce this to mere points scoring - he was an elite shutdown, penalty-killing two way center in his 6th NHL season.

'Outscored' as in potting more goals yes. 'Outscored' as in producing more, no. He is good, but he isn't going to get a ton or years or a ton of money.

I'd rather pay a 23 year old thats proven he can play 1st line minutes and be a leading scorer and won at every level he has played than almost every player that has got the same deal this summer. but that makes him a punk :picard:

You guys are idiots

He had good numbers last year. Definitely improved his defensive game. I know it goes against popular opinion, but being that the opinion is that of CDC, I'd say he is worth 4.5-5 per and will prove he is worth that next year and the year after for sure. He is going to score 30 in a full season.

Or then of course there's always the Ferry

Also,
I'm putting together a list of the criteria to be a "real" Canuck's fan. So far I have this:

1. I cheer for the Canucks, whatever happens.
2. I never say anything bad about the Canucks.
3. I know the difference between "real" fans and posers just by how they post on the CDC or where they sit at GM Place.
4. I wouldn't dream of leaving a game before it ended, even if it meant missing a train, ferry or a threesome with the wife and her hot best friend?
5. I make 10+ posts a day and I have over 10,000 posts on the CDC, so my Canuck "street-cred" is huge. Go away noob!
6. No one F's with me. I train in MMA. I'm really tough. I'll curb stomp yo' donkey.
7. I make a tonne of $$$$.
8. I'm witty.
9. If it meant missing a game, I wouldn't study for a midterm.
10. I roll with a guy who has a wicked car.
11. I like to post "source?" a lot.

Calm down...Was simply clarifying.

This kid clearly has some sort of attitude/ego problem yet everyone on this board preaches character and then in the same breath clamored for a guy who may get himself run out of his second city in 2 full NHL seasons.

F that.

He clearly doesn't .. you morons need to calm your completely irrational hate.

Kesler signed a damn offersheet for way more than he was worth screwing the nucks over.. all character :sadno:

CBC asked him about the comments made regarding him and he said he didn't want to talk about it. Does that sound like someone who was unfairly characterized?

Yeah it's awesome we got a 4th line scrub for him. This board makes me laugh whenever they try to justify every bad move.

All I mean is rosters don't get larger with increased cap. Players simply make more. Plenty of inferior players to Kesler are getting more money than he is this offseason because this years cap is higher than the cap when Kesler signed his deal.

As far as Cody goes though I can understand why he would reject that deal. Hodgson is a strong prospect starting to show production on the ice as he enters his prime years approach. Why would any prospect going on 24 years old lock himself into a 4 year contract at a lower price? If he develops like he looks he is Buffalo has him at a tremendous bargain for years.

Players in this situation often sign shorter deals so they can profit later when they have fully reached that potential or the organization works out a long term contract that guarentees larger money now for a marginal discount on how good they could become.

I think CDC is looking to much into it as they have a personal history with Cody.

EDIT: Not to mention his season pace was for 58 points in 82 games which would still get him more than 3.25 per year in this market.

He is going into next season as the de facto #1 center. His dad has stated Cody is looking for 7-8 years @ $5mil/per. With all the stupid money going around and the cap going up next year and possibly higher each year after that... I would say that it is worth it.

Once again this is Regier haggling the hell out of his players the same way he been doing it since he started.

Belanger just got $3mil per in Edm, Clarkson and his one year of 30 goals just got him $5mil+

$5mil for a young blue chipper for 7-8 years is worth it. Y'all bess believe Cody will rack up atleast 25g-30a next season. Not to mention that living in Buffalo is just an awesome thing to do.

Too many stupid posters on here who have no clue who they hatin and why. Bandwagon haters

Its bandwagon haters like y'all is the reason why nobody worth their salt ever wants to play here.
