Bartowski + Hansen + Cassels + 2016 1st for Harmonic and Barzal

at the rate we are going, that will be a high 1st rounder. Hansen will help that team immensely, just depends what they want, forward or a dman.

Get serious. To get something you have to give something, most of the time.

At this point trading our 1st would be suicide. Talked about for generations to come.

if were going to suck, can we at least play some tough guys. We are baby ass soft, Sbisa gets re-injured for fighting a goon. Dorsett is now a finese player with all the ice time he gets. If we cant beat them on the ice... lets just beat on them lol

Oh well...this was a .500 club going into the season and now at the quarter mark, it's proving to everyone that they are a .500 club.

When you have Matt Bartkowski, who couldn't stay in the Boston lineup consistently last season and Yannick Weber (thank god he was benched tonight) in your top two pairings, it's not going to be a good season.  Throw in the fact that Alex Edler is the Alex Edler of circa-Tortorella and Dan Hamhuis is the re-incarnation of Kevin Bieksa, things aren't going to end well.

Canucks are finding all kind of ways to lose now.  We're going to have to hunker down.  It's going to be a long season.  Winter soltice is fast approaching.

7 wins and 13 losses is .500? since when?

Hamuis actually can appear to be a top 4 to other teams surprisingly would be a great excuse to try and ship him out of van

be nice if that would work but they will push for more re a 1rst or pair of seconds an minor league player prospect forward I would hope it could be done but not a first rounder pick no way

Exactly.

Edler = 3rd defenceman on most teams. In Vancouver = #1

Tanev = 4th defenceman on most teams. In Vancouver = #2

Sbisa = 7th defenceman in Anaheim. In Vancouver = #4

Hamhuis = 4th defenceman in most teams. In Vancouver = #3

Weber = 7th defenceman on most teams. In Vancouver = #5

Bartkowski = 7th defenceman on most teams. In Vancouver = #5

Hutton = AHL top pairing on most teams. In Vancouver = top-4.

Our defensive depth is probably the worst in the league after maybe Edmonton and Columbus if that.

This was obvious from last year, and with how the season ended you would think our weak defensive depth would've been addressed.

I don't know- look beyond the top 3-4 picks - not really anything special. Unless we are in the Mathews sweepstakes, like bottom 5-6 guys, a return of Hamonic and Barzal without giving up other major assets works for me. I mean common Virtanen was a no 6 pick and nice guy and all but if we took Ehlers, no one would be talking about it anymore.

We replaced one bad defenceman in Bieksa with another in Bartkowski, saved a bit of cap but that was it. Didn't get any better. In fact, we lose Corrado and Clendening for next to nothing, so lose a lot of value there.

I know defencemen are hard to come by which is why trades like these are tough to make, but if Calgary and Edmonton can make monster deals for Reinhart and Hamilton, anyone can. We've got assets, we've got picks, we've got the need to do it.

A bit of foresight wouldn't hurt either. JB could have drafted defencemen in the last draft, he picks Brisebois who's getting shredded in junior and that's about all the help we have coming in on defence.

Brutal, just brutal management. You win in this league with defence, not scoring wingers and forwards. They may look nice and flashy and score game winning goals, but you start building a team around goaltending and defence.

Defence wins championships, especially in the NHL, and we're not getting close to one without a couple of star defencemen which won't happen until Benning get's off his ass and deals for one.

We aren't a cup contender so let's play the kids, sell off anyone at the deadline for picks and get a top 10 pick

To be honest if we're playing .500 hockey around the deadline and well out of a playoff spot, I'd be all for that.

However, the Pacific division is pathetically weak this season, and if we sneak into the playoffs, a first round against a good team would be HUGE for our rookies' development. I'd rather squeak into the playoffs and get ousted in 5 or 6 games by a good team in the playoffs because it'd be monstrous for the likes of Virtanen, McCann and Hutton not to mention Horvat seeing his second round of playoff hockey.

That being said, if the price is right and we're a bubble-playoff team, Hamhuis, Vbrata and Higgins may be able to fetch us some nice return. A top-10 pick coupled with our first round pick would be lovely.
