It is going to be tough for the next little while, because of who else is in our division.

Calgary and Edmonton are both better teams, with better youth cores.  Plus they are only going to get better over the next 3 years anyways.

The 3 Californian teams are all better.......LA is dropping off now......Anaheim and San Jose are also showing some signs of age, with some bad contracts for older players, but they still have some good years left.  Arizona and Vegas will suck for awhile.  Leaves the best case scenario for the Canucks fighting for a wildcard......so we can play a division champ first round.

I personally just hope we don't lead the league in man-games lost to injury again next season.

Around the league average would be such a treat. Probably wouldn't help the tank initiative but would be nice to see what kind of team we really have.

No playoffs for a couple years, no problem.

But hard for the team to gel for a playoff push down the road when half our team is injured at any given time.

Please hockey gods, at least give us our health with which to better travel this difficult road before us!!!

While I think you might be a tad off as far as how long it will take for us to be a legitimate playoff team, I do think that after next years draft (assuming we're able to land a legit 1st line playmaking center prospect and PP QB Dman prospect in these next two drafts) we'll be in a position to start actually trying to be good again without having to worry about what that will do to our draft odds.

That being said, I still think we're at least 2-3 years away (again, assuming we can land said prospects within the next 15 months).

So basically, I see it playing out like this....

2017-2018 - Bottomfeeder (Land a high pick in next years draft)

2018-2019- Battling for wildcard spot (On the backs of our ever improving young players...Probably finish just out though)

2019-2020- Battling for wildcard spot (Same as before, but with greater odds of making it this time)

2020-2021- Contender.

1.  Don't know.  Depends.

2.  Undecided at this point - would lean toward Patrick.

3.  No.  Whether people "believe" you implies there's something to believe.

4.  Desjardins.  I think a lot of armchairs will be disappointed and Willie will be back next year, might even get an extension at the end of it.

I think its more like 2-3 year.  We have an interesting skill based scoring core developing.

We need two real #1 all situation D guys.

I see GMJB keeping with his rapid succession strategy (musical chairs) at forward, while the D core is figured out.

Do not be surprised to see another D drafted in the first round.

What happened to Baertschi in your plans?

Anyway, I don't see it, I think we could be competing for the playoffs come 2020 and the cup 2022 if all goes well, but I wouldn't want to rush it beyond that. Let the kids develop, see what happens, don't sweat it too hard.

Just now, Chris12345 said:

Not only will the Canucks not contend/make the playoffs in the next 3 seasons Connor McDavid will eat them alive for the next 15 years.

And I HATE the Coil.

If he doesn't, the Leafs will. I  am so mad.

Arizona, Winnipeg, and the Flames have pretty good young coming cores too.  :(

Oh yea I'd draft a dman 100%. They are so easy to draft but no one does it because they take longer to develop and aren't as sexy.

Drew Doughty is WAY better than Stamkos.

boucher-granlund-dorsett

cramarossa

edler-stetcher

tryamkin-tanev

hutton-gudbranson

sbisa-biega

markstrom

bachman

well lose gaunce to vegas

boucher is a gagner kinda guy. not quick, tricky hands and pp specialist. more of a depth guy/minor leaguer in a perfect world

i hope but doubt we get into top 3 picks at the draft with vegas getting in the way with the lottery. 5,6,7 are more likely so well draft who we draft at that spot

then we shop 2 of tanev, edler, subban or sbisa at the draft. edler and sbisa preferably yet edler is probably unwilling to waive

what we need? grit, toughness, back up goalie and centres!

i really like peluso outta winnipeg or king. big guy who plays the part well from what ive seen.

back up tendy could be bernier, mason or condon. not down for miller for another year. resigning a guy turning 38 next year doesnt make sense for a rebuilding team

drafting and/or trading for centres is no.1 priority. impossible to gage who would be truly interested in our D and what they would be willing to give up
