Trade Sutter for Burakovsky and a pick.

That had be a freaking great pick...

I agree that we could move on from Sutter, as the defensive guys on the roster are getting the job done and I would rather Gaudette get the playing time rather than being demoted.

Sutter is great at his role, and should have significant value to contending teams.  If you eat 50% of his cap hit, he becomes one of the most sought after forwards at the trade deadline.

Goldobin is an ineffective forechecker, not a hard areas player - does not go to the front of the net - is not a particularly strong support player on his side of center ice = not as good a fit as you seem to think, despite his upside/ability to make plays.   Yes he's a more talented scoring winger - but he also needs an opposing winger that brings what he does not - so when it comes down to Boeser or Goldobin, Goldobin moves to another line.

I get why some people want Leivo on a line with Boeser and Pettersson because of his "big body" and how he can do some things that Goldy can't do. But Goldy's upside is much better and his analytics apparently show he is not as incompetent as many seem to think he is.

So Leivo can be the one bumped off of the Boeser and Pettersson line. I don't know who you think was trying to say take Boeser off the line in favour of Goldy? That must of been a figment of your imagination.

Players you don't trade. Bo, Petey , Boeser , Virtanen,  Gaudette , Motte ???

You keep a select group of veteran's.

In my opinion the only untouchables in the whole organization are Bo, Petey, Brock, Hughes and our 2019 first overall pick.

Everything/one else is tradeable

Meh.  So early...  many players have statistical jumps when coming to their new clubs.

I think he can be a solid 3rd line winger.  Would like to see a touch more physicality from Leivo, but getting a youngish middle 6 winger for a C level prospect, that’s a good deal.

This is more about Dubas than Benning.  I honestly think it was it was a good will move on behalf of the Leafs, as they found Leivo a great opportunity to see some success, after working so hard for years with their organization.   Also, sets up a potential trade relationship heading into the deadline.  Dubas could’ve got a better return than Carcone no doubt...   But he sees the fit for both the player and for future transactions.  So imo this is more of a case of “we’ll scratch your back, and you scratch ours”. Smart smart guy.

I remember when Brendan Leipsic was a gold nugget. Both Golobin and Dahlen are also 'gold nuggets'.

Once the 'new team adrenaline' rush wears off we'll get a good look at what we have in him. Until then, no 4x4s for this man please.

Don’t eat your cereal; they’re yellow.

didn't Burakovsky grow up on the  same street as Pettersson and is buddies with both Dahlen and Petey??

...I'm probably thinking of someone else that Burakovsky grew up with that is with the Canucks...vaguely remember that someone on the Canucks knows him and they keep in touch.

Oh? You may be on to something...

I like Leivo so far, and regardless of where he draws into the lineup, he was a great pick up by Benning. Adds to the log jam up front, especially the fact that he’s been playing very well so far.

Leads me to believe he’s working on a trade. Perhaps one of Sutter or Baer? I agree with an earlier poster regarding the fact that Gaudette has been continually improving and looks to be being groomed as our future 3C. With Pettersson proving able to play centre, Bo being an excellent one, and Beafle shoring up defensive matchups as our “4th”, it kind of leaves Sutter as the odd man out. I am all for making a trade to improve our team with any veteran, although I like Sutter and what he brings to the team.

At the end of the day, I have loved the way this team has been playing this year, even during our losing streak. Our defence still has some glaring holes, and I think most would agree is the weakest part of our roster, and future depth as well. With Juolevi shelved for the year, and Hughes only being a possibility towards the end of the season, that leaves us pretty empty in the cupboard.

I’d like to see Benning pry a D+2 or D+3 defensive prospect out of a team looking to fill some holes going into the post season. Lilljegren in Toronto comes to mind, but I’m sure there’s plenty of others someone could help me with. For once, I think we’re finally showing we have enough quality depth up front to be able to make a move that won’t hurt us in the short term, assuming we’re still on the bubble by TDL.
