@Jimmy McGill We can buy out his last two years pretty easily.

Just hoping he can regain a step in his game in the first four years.

  3. Horvat and Markstrom for Luongo and Schneider. Thank You Gillis.

@King Heffy I would say the cap crunch has a lot more to do with Benning as opposed to Gillis' $3M on Luongo.

  5. My wife, who has become a pretty big hockey nut, still isn't a big enough nut to follow other teams. So she doesn't know who Tyler Toffoli is. Well, when I saw the trade, I yelled out "BABE, WE GOT TYLER TOFFOLI!".... she said.... "What? I'm not tired of Chipotle". So we got Chipotle tonight for dinner and then I explained to her, over dinner, who Tyler Toffoli is.

      Wholesome. I love it!

  6. So a poster on Reddit proposed a Madden for Toffoli straight up deal 51 days ago, and got downvoted so much he deleted his topic.

Now majority think it was a fantastic trade despite having to give up even more assets. Toffoli is already one of my favorite players, but this is groupthink at its finest.

@ReggieBush Might be wrong but I think 51 days ago we were in about the same position as now at around 3rd in the division (we were on a long winning streak though).

But perhaps you're right. I still think it's groupthink.

@Rounoush definitely. But giving up Schaller isn't worth a 2nd round pick and a conditional 4th. So outside of the two Tylers, it was a slight net negative for us.

  8. Podkolzin and another Russian were two players I spotted who took off their silver medal. Disappointed.

Disappointed in him for taking off his medal? Or are you saying he was disappointed so he took off his medal?

  9. Who else thinks JB should push hard for Toffoli? Those of you who remember Kings hockey from 2014 will know where I'm going with this... Our 2nd line would be complete (70-53-73).

      @BrockBoester

C'mon man, that proposal is like the old "Raymond, Ballard, and a 1st" proposals; you're essentially trying to give up all dead weight with very minimal consideration of the other team in the proposal, and hoping the dead weight adds up to something. If you were the Kings why in the world would you even consider getting any of those player? How do any of them help you in the long term?

@Coconuts Not sure I like this argument. If we're just going to cite "hindsight" for opinions like these, then you could very well do it the other way around. Eg. does it make it not okay to praise Benning for drafting EP or even QH just because "a lot of folks didn't like those picks back then." Hindsight is definitely a thing, just not sure this is the proper use.

  11. Here's a thought: wouldn't it be smart if whenever you're playing a team of the opposite conference, to arrange the game to go to overtime on purpose so that both teams at least get a point? It doesn't affect your standings at the end and it guarantees you a point each game.

    1. Grape

      Grape

@goalie13 Yeah I’m not saying it’s viable at all over the course of a whole season so there’s no arguing with the first point. To your second point though, I’m not sure I really understand: in a regular scenario you start off with 0 points and try to earn 2 by winning the game, in this scenario you start off with 1 point and try to earn 2 by winning the game, you’re not risking anything. To your third point, you’d be getting an extra point as well so any extra point you give to the opponents the opposing conference, you would receive as well, so there’s no harm in the Finals either.

However, in a situation where both team desperately need a point to get in the playoffs, I could see something like this happening.

  12. Saw this question on Hockey News:

If you could have dinner with any NHLer, past or present, just to hear the stories they have to tell, who would it be?

  13. Give JB his contract extension already.

    1. Grape

      Grape

I disagree. As much as I like most of the moves he made, it's the same argument CDC makes if JB makes questionable moves or picks: We need to wait and see.

If we're going to "wait and see before coming to conclusions" only when JB makes seemingly questionable moves, we have to "wait and see before coming to conclusions" when he has had a seemingly good offseason. It's a results based league, and rightfully so.

  14. Someone on r/canucks is pretty adamant that Micheal Ferland will sign with the Canucks tomorrow. Won't waste a thread on this since that's the primary source and I'm not at all confident that this will actually happen, but the deal would be roughly 4x4:

  15. should booby lou’s number go up in the rafters?

      Grape

      @vinny_in_vancouver

Either or. I was focusing on the given that he didn't win a Cup. And so if he played a few more years we'd retire his jersey.

Of course, like you said, it would be the other way around as well.

If he played a few more seasons with us than yes. I think he'd be better getting retired by the Panthers

  18. I need to take a break from CDC. The endless whining and tantrums are driving me bonkers. Catch you all up later

    1. Grape

@NewbieCanuckFan I don't think so, HF is more objective which is partially why I like CDC more. While there's some crazy hot overreactions there, any fanbase population (aka forum) that's more negative is pretty much ALWAYS the more objective population. Every fanbase population (aka forum) is going to be positively biased towards their own team. This is because the mean reaction or perception from other teams' fanbase (specifically those with no allegiance who are knowledgeable) will ALWAYS be more more "accurate" and therefore negative than a fanbase population of the team itself, even HF.

Basically even HF Canucks Forums has on average a more positive take of what a hockey forum with no allegiance would have, and automatically that would make it more objective than CDC. Again that's why I like CDC more, but disagree if you'd like

CDC is probably one of the most positive forums out there. I'm part of a few other for a few other teams of other sports I'm a fan of, and honestly CDC is fine.

Yeah I watched a lot of the first and second round. I've been into the NBA more now since the Raptors are in the Finals

  21. whats the highest pick we can get in a trade for a player over 25 on our team?

    1. Grape

No one's saying to trade Pearson or anybody for that matter. We're just stating everybody's value.

Pearson for a second would be nice value. His value is high right now and I think it'll go lower honestly, not sure the pace he scored at is quite sustainable.

  23. What is wrong with Toronto. All these calls what go under review never go the Canucks way. That was clearly not a goal. And that Nick Cousins kick in goal is the worst call i've ever seen this ever.

    1. Grape

      Grape

I mean I thought the Pearson goal honestly should've been called back. Both Horvat and Pearson interfered with the goalie there.

  24. Quinn Hughes will likely be a Canuck tomorrow!

  25. Dam with all the Dahlen news recently, I don’t know what to believe. One side is lying.

    1. Grape

      Grape

No need for anyone to lie here, and the line of communication would be Dahlen -> Agent -> Benning, so it's probably either Dahlen or his agent being vague and his agent or Benning misunderstanding.
