[Report] Tanev Hires Agent; Close to Resigning

Recommended Posts

Shocked an amazed how much you guys think he should be getting.

Is Chris Tanev a sound defensive defenseman? Yes.

Can he provide a lot of offense? No. (10points)

Has he played a lot of games in the NHL? No. (104 regular season and playoff games)

Is he in the top 10 of the best strictly defensive defensemen in the NHL today? No.

CDC Logic: $1.5 to upwards of $3.5 million per year.

Wow.

"In the best interests of Christopher, we have decided to get an agent involved at this stage of the game," said Mike Tanev on Monday morning from his Toronto home. "His expertise will hopefully bring this to a quick conclusion. (Chris) wants to play his best hockey in Vancouver. He loves it out there."

I would think a two year deal for around $1.5-$1.75 mil will be the goal. He deserves a raise but not that much of one. Unfortunately for him he plays with great cool but he hasn't figured out how to contribute offensively at all and he's had some injuries.

The OP is not misleading anyone.

"His expertise will hopefully bring this to a quick conclusion. (Chris) wants to play his best hockey in Vancouver. He loves it out there."

That's a pretty clear statement by someone fairly representative - his father - that he wants both a quick resolution and to be here.

3 yrs, 5 million.

He brings no offence or physicality, just good solid defensive play and gets the puck out of our zone clearly. Considering point-scoring seems to attract the big bucks, he should sign for no more than 2M. Honestly we can't afford much more. Corrado should be in our lineup for around 40 games next season as our #6 guy, sharing the play with Alberts and hopefully a veteran depth defenceman to complement all this youth on the blueline.

Hamhuis - Bieksa

Edler - Corrado

Garrison - Tanev

Alberts

Around 20M for 7 guys on the back end is pretty reasonable, but that is a VERY young defence with no calming veteran presence. These guys like Bieksa, Edler, Corrado and Tanev are all very nervous and in big pressure games they've been seen cracking (especially the last 2 playoffs). We still need a veteran D-man (similar to Oduya/Roszival/Redden's impact) to round this group out or they'll collapse in the post season again.
