[Eklund] Canadiens discussing with the Canucks for a defenceman

Recommended Posts

Not sure why people have such a hate on for Eklund. He's doesn't have a crystal ball, and is just passing on rumors. Don't people realize that 99.9% of the time hockey rumors amount to nothing. That said he probably has to throw in a rumor of his own when times are slow. No big deal.

Anyone that calls Edler soft doesn't know a thing about hockey. This guy refuses to accept that Edler is in a three-way tie for our best defenseman behind Hamhuis and Garrison. It's laughable he thinks we'd be better off without him

They don't need Edler, they already have Markov who is possibly the best PP defenseman in the game. The offense on the backend runs through Markov not Subban, Subban just has the great shot.

Again its Eklund so I don't put a ton of stock into it, maybe they are interested in Edler just to boost there Dcore overall but they don't need his offensive game.

Tinordi would be great for our team because its now a proven fact that soft Sedin and Edler type players don't get the job done in the clutch.

A defensive lineup of Garrison, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Tanev, Corrado and Tinordi is one hell of a mix of skill, toughness and heart and a mix that has the potential of getting their names on the cup.

Your 100% correct, assuming Markov is healthy. I argued last year pre-season that Markov alone could return the Canadians to the post season. He is that good.

Markov who washed out also the year before with injuries and left them in the lottery, and played a total of 65 games from 2009 thru 2012. I could see them wanting better depth!

Plus he's a free agent next year who (because he is so good) will prob continue to command $5.5 mill despite being twice as injury prone as Sammy Salo and almost as old...

How about Markov and Beaulieu for Edler? :bigblush:

My guess is Tanev's rights. We don't have a deep D pool so I don't see us getting rid of someone unless we have to.

I don't think it will be Edler because the return would surely include a top 6 - and with burrows, sedins, kass, kes and booth, and having guys like hansen/gaunce/jensen/horvat/shinkaruk waiting there is n't much room.

A few hits to the head in some of those cage matches?

Yes those players are key in a cup run; Tinordi is very desirable. But you can't take 50 points out of the line up and replace it with 15 and still win a cup either. You need a balance of skill and physical play. Plus he's not going to replace Garrison or Hamhuis on the left side anytime soon. So no he won't be the impact player on any Canuck cup in the next year or so...

Demitra wasn't a budget value signing, but was certainly a success. We had a young developing team and had cap space. Demitra was an infusion of talent that helped get us to the play off's.

Reality check; Edler is a fringe all star and has had back troubles impacting his play. Not quite enough to get Galchynyuk IMO who is a blue chip prospect projected by many to be a routine all star. More likely to get a prospect who is a notch down (Tinordi or Bieulieu) and a solid roster player who is not all star caliber. A 3 C or top 6 RW would be perfect.

Mtl actually has depth at both positions, plus they signed Briere. There is a lot of common ground for a deal actually?

Beaulieu has potential to be a PP specialist from the 3rd pair, so he might replace some of Edler's offence over time. So I would pick him over Tinordi. Not over value, Tinordi might be worth more, but over fit. Then we can get more out of the forward as well?

Eller? (Stillk have Desharnais, Galchinyuk, Briere, Plekanec at C)

Gallagher? (Still have Bourque, Gionta, Briere plays RW, Parros), possibly too expensive so we kick in...

Bourque? * has NTC so ??

Someone else?

You pick, but its what Edler might command.

Just a few playoff hits of Edler's. Calling this guy "soft" is probably not a word most other NHLers would use - aside from the guys below, Pavelski, Clifford, Thornton, Hall, Eberle, Duchene, Hornqvist would probably not concur. People can complain that he isn't the same of late - but a serious and persistent back injury can have that effect...

So a guy who wouldn't defend a teammate on the ice and never has probably never will, never defends the goalie or crease whatsover to him our goalies and crease are always fair game, a guy who would and will never fight in his career and in front of any kind of confrontation runs scared to the bench, walks away after any goal against no matter how important acts like he doesn't care even if it was him who screwed up as usual but throws and average of one good hit every few games isn't soft??

Lol he is as soft as they come and anyone who thinks he's not because of a rare hit is a fool and looks like there's a few of you.

Some of you fans really have no clue.
