Jannik Hansen is looking swole!

An NHL player carrying around 13 % body fat is considered not fit at all, whereas its normal for the average Joe. World class athletes in aerobic sports are routinely 8 to 11% with freaks closer to 5%.

But two other factors are also normal;

- athletes who are extremely fit who achieve the same weight as you or me, often appear bulked up, because they remain thin in the waste. Possibly a bad comparison; I used to see the old Grizzlies center Bryant Big Country Reaves all the time in the Landsdale mall (funny, with his 5' nothing wife where their 3 year old was bigger than her almost :) ). He looked fat on TV next to Michael Jordan, but he was slim as anything in real life.

- hockey players, see Lapierre last year, often bulk up in summer but the exhaustive skating strips some of the weight back pretty quick as training camp and the season progress. The added muscle base gives them explosiveness, then they skate through to add endurance and tone up. Not totally a dissimilar cycle to body builders...

This suits the role of a Hansen who needs to be absolutely explosive for 14 minutes in short shifts where the Sedin's skate thinner. They benefit by absolute endurance training (with a healthy dose of core strength) so they can hang on the first minute of a PP, but have twice the jump when the Hall Gill's of the world, on the PK, are dead out of puff...

edit; and the Steven Stamkos's of the world or Lidstrom, which are bulked up offering explosiveness, but also have the endurance (an even better example is Lebron James) is an extreme athletic freak of nature.
