Yannick Weber Frustration Thread

Blaming Weber/coaches for playing Weber is easy.... if you completely ignore the lack of depth in the whole organization.

I don't see anybody defending Weber's performance, they are trying to point out the lack of options. Swapping Biega for Weber may seem like a solution to some. But that's only addressing the fact they don't want Weber in the line up. It doesn't magically solve the lack of depth in the organization.

Edler Tanev
Hamhuis Weber
Sbisa Bartkowski
Hutton

Pedan Biega
Ehrhardt Fedun
Negrin Subban
Sautner Shields

Yup that clears it up, thanks for that. Your list is a little off though........Weber should be below Shields.

Whether Weber plays or not, will not impact this team significantly.  All the D have had difficulties this year.  We need Sbisa back in the lineup for his grit.  Edler started out weak with lots of turnovers but, in the last 10 games, I see significant improvement.  Weber is a little off this year compared to last year but he does have a good shot from the point - better than anybody else except for Edler.  Weber is also a right handed shot which is a commodity that we are in short supply.  I'd like to look at the positive - I think it was against Dallas where he moved the puck into the offensive zone and made a great pass to one of the Sedins who then passed it to the other Sedin and this all led to a goal.

I looked at the second Chicago goal again, Weber had position and was outmanned (two Hawks to him) - just unlucky.  Bartkowski could be blamed too - he could have stepped up to the winger and taken the pass away.  If you're looking for a whipping boy, I don't buy it.  For a 7th or 8th D, I'm fine with Weber.

We have lots of other issues:  lack of forward depth, lack of top prospects (where's our Artemi Panarin?) , no secondary scoring after the Sedins line, lack of solid D prospects, very average D, etc etc.  I would like to see McCann and Virtanen go to the WJC - could be a great confidence builder and a positive environment. Given no Sutter and no Hamhuis for several weeks, we will be truly lucky to make the playoffs.  I just want to see the team compete every night, win or lose.  We may also have to trade one or two of our top 9 veteran forwards (not the Sedins) to get a pick or two (for the future).

No I think he is last years Vey in that JB is not willing to admit he made a mistake and is hoping he is going to miraculously turn into an offensive Dman. Since he has started his career in the NHL, he has always been a -minus player. Nothing indicated he was going to be defensively responsible and being offensive was going to be his only assett. 4 points and 0 goals in 22 games? I would say that its a fail.

Again, good thing we're only using him as a depth defenceman. The bad thing is we've needed our depth a lot this year so far. There's a difference between a fail and bringing back a transition guy short term who isn't playing as well as he did the previous year.

Did you even look at the stats that you provided. He was +4 with 11g and 10a last season.

Weber hasn't played great, but he is far from the main reason we are playing so badly. I know we expect more offence from him, but our secondary scoring is abysmal. That falls on the forwards more than just one depth d-man.

Did you look at his -13 this year? How about his previous stats prior to last year? His + - in 2010-11 was 0 and it was +4 last year, every other year it was -minus. Again he is a career -30 and you cannot paint that rosy red no matter how you look at it. You have to admit the team plays way better without him in the line up.

I can handle our team not playing up to par due to injuries(Sutter,Sbisa) and I can handle our other Dman having brain farts(Edler,Hammer,Sbisa) now and then but this guy is just plain awful and when a guy like RNH roughs you up? Then its time to find another career.

Come on guys. I don't like Weber personally, but is a thread dedicated to how much he sucks really necessary? There are a lot more problems with the team then just Weber. Yes he makes me pull my hair out a lot, and he is BRUTAL defensively, but he's not the worst player to ever suit up for us. It's also not his fault that he's pretty much been thrown to the wolves because of how bad our defense is.

Agreed, He is a low cost guy who is doing his best. And he seems like a decent guy. On most teams he is either 7th man or in the minors. It makes no sense that he is playing top 4 (or even top 6) except that the Canucks are suffering from very limited depth on D and key injuries on D.

His one saving grace is that he does have some offensive skill that shows up on the PP, But he has been kind of unlucky so far this year so this skill (such as it is) has not resulted in much actual scoring (4 pts and no goals in 22 games).

But the criticism should be directed at JB and WD, not at Weber.

Context helps. You were responding to someone and the answer to your question was in the stats you provided.

I wish I was as bad as Yannick Weber was at my job and someone paid me $1.5 million for it.

You are nowhere near as good at anything as he is at hockey. He is one of the best in the world, good enough to be in the top professional league. He's not as good as hundreds of others, but better than most.

If you can't figure it out from the phrase "the previous year" then no amount of explaining I do will help you. Hell, you posted the stats yourself, don't let your hate blind you, 11 goals, 21 points (and a plus season at that) is pretty good for a guy who isn't a starter the whole year.

EDIT: and he's never been in the double digits for +/-, which is a terrible stat to begin with, until this year so you'll have to bring it a lot strong to convince anyone you aren't just hating and have nothing to back your statements.
