It's weird.

People on other days would be quick to offer Bo/McCann/any of our other prospects for Drouin straight up. But now, after its now known that he's asked for a trade, people are now lowballing value pretty hard. Understandably so.

So, does asking for a trade significantly/less significantly reduce trade value?

Yes it does. That's why we got baertschi for a second.

He hasn't been given a fair shot. Players worse than him are given time on Tampa's top line as the coach plays favorites. Drouin spent the entire year on Tampa's 4th line and produced despite playing with plugs and with limited minutes.

I can't recall Bo ever complaining when he spent his whole rookie year playing on the 4th line, barely cracking 10 minutes a night. Just an interesting note that came to mind.

Tampa Bay is in a strange situation this year. They could lose their franchise player, and now a high drafted prospect. I predict they'll face a similar downfall as the Canucks after our Stanley Cup loss.

Got to think they would want a young top 6 player back given that they will likely lose Stamkos for nothing and now Drouin wants out.

Young potential top 6 player plus a 2nd or 3rd

if they don't have stamkos re-signed before the dealine yzerman has to trade him at TDL or he is an utter failure as a GM. they can't risk losing him for nothing

I don't buy that.

Palat 7th round, Johnson undrafted & Kucherov 2knd round are all examples of guys who won the coaches trust and play.

And they play very well!

They skate, hound the puck, dig in the corners, play passing lanes and then are absolutely deadly when they head up ice. Drouin is also deadly when he heads up ice, all the talent in the world. But there is more to the game...

Wtf is going on in Tampa lately...?

Stevie quite apparently plays the control card.

Not all guys who are used to having their own way, in fact that's what made them what they are, give in so readily?

Plus it sounds like there might be some politics, again common in control games, that play behind the scenes.  MSL wanted out. Now he's not the only one!

Edler is the only guy who can make Stevie Y pick up the phone, and Benning has made it clear which direction team is going. Hockey gods are supplying so many ways for Benning to do a quick rebuild, but he can't grasp the idea. Drouin would look great on Canucks'.

This is why the critics continue to bash this team because if they said we are rebuilding, they would be in realistic trade partners. Drouin for Edler would be the trade to make and it would allow this team to tank and nab a top 5 this year. Hence rebuilding but what management is doing with the team is something else lol

Edler, prospect + 2nd for Drouin

Lol at Tampa fans complaining about having to wait 4 years for their team to have success. Didn't they make it to the finals once already under Yzerman, not to mention they already have a cup.

Trying being a Canucks fan and having to wait 17 years between going to the finals and NOT winning. I guess it's our own fault that we're not a Southern American team that gets gifted cups early in their existence.

Drouin sounds like a hodgson 2.0...he whined when he got sent Down last year and now he wants out. You gotta earn your stripes kid, you're not just gonna get handed ice time and pp minutes

id stay away if I was the Canucks

Exactly what I thought. Posted that on someone's status instead lol

We would have to offer up Horvat or McCann for Yzerman to even listen.

Not sure if it's in our best interest to keep giving up our own drafted and developed players for other teams. If we want a top player like this we should get them in the draft.

There seems to be some red flags with this player, even though his talent level is off the charts....As a GM.you would be making a career defining trade,if you traded for this player....You would have to give up a lot for his 'potential'(which is risky),because he has not proved it at the pro level yet.
