If Mackenze Stewart can make Utica, anyone can.

In all seriousness, he should start in the ECHL and hopefully establish himself as a player right off the bat. Maybe he turns into a decent bottom-six guy for us one day.

But he didn't make utica...

We are accumulating so many small forwards, one has to wonder how many of these contracts is too many. I'm thinking there is going to be a number of these players that they won't re-sign, as a number of contracts are up for renewal.

Yeah my thoughts as well. I know something meaningful is coming , but after the last few years , I'm getting pretty impatient . Lol

Not much footage on this kid except for a few fights and a bit from his draft year in 2013. 2-way guy with grit, determination, character, hustle and all the other JB buzzwords. Definitely has good wheels and looks like a PK specialist. Great signing for Utica, but I'm with a bunch of people here saying I'm not sure if an AHL deal couldn't have been done 1st to see if he'll be a good pro or not. The only risk is putting us closer to the 50 contracts, but I think he makes 46 so not that big of a deal. Looks like an Alex Burrows from what I can see.

Interesting to note that he's a teammate of Vitali Abramov who will likely be an early second round pick.

I could definitely see this being a player Benning is interested in. Smallish player but very dynamic and is a terrific skater.

Pretty good scouting  report on him. I love the fact he has the nose for the net, where he scored most of his goals from and terrific skater. And it doesn't seem he's afraid to drop the gloves. He's going to potentially add good depth in the bottom 6, most likely starting out in Utica. Let's see how he does. And yes he does look like a mix of Lappiere and Lucic. Nice signing Benning!

JB adding an element that very few of any of our prospects have.  Its also nice to find these kind of players in the rough without having to waste a draft pick, which could be spent on finding higher level of skill.

A physical, gritty, high intensity edge to their game.  Jake Virtanen has a bit but doesn't display it enough consistently.

I see a lot of Andrew Shaw potential in this kid. Pavel can really chuck the fists too...guy who can play a regular shift and be physical in my mind is a guy worth always giving a look. Plus a free prospect!

the kids a gamer!

Talent Analysis

One of the main questions that need to be answered after a player misses significant time due to injury is how their game might be affected when they return. For Laplante, there was no such fear. He continues to throw his body around with reckless abandon, and to play hard in the corners and along the boards. Laplante only appears to have one gear and that is full tilt hockey, shift after shift. He can also hold his own offensively, with a nose for the net and good playmaking abilities.
