coastal1
what a joke the Canadiens are. Everyone knows we picked the top defenceman in the draft. And then we send him back to the OHL because he is not ready yet. The Canadiens pick a lower rated defenceman from the same league and he will start the season with the team. What does that say about the quality of the defence in Montreal!
Beary Sweet
Juolevi has a bright future ahead of him. I see him becoming a Olli Maatta type of player or even better maybe a Erik Karlsson. He is definitely our defenceman of the future and looking more and more likely he will become a top pairing defenceman.

What does that say about the quality of the defence in Montreal! Sergachev has the size and strength to allow him to handle the NHL. That's what sets him apart from Juolevi. He'll likely struggle with the speed of the game though.

What does that say about the quality of the defence in Montreal! The only reason Joulevi didn't make the starting line up is his physical maturity. When he is physically ready, he'll likely be an impact player right away. I wouldnt be surprised if he ends up being the best dman of the draft. Seeing an 18 year old play for 3 preseason games is hardly enough to determine whether he'll be able to handle 82 regular season games. Regardless of how well he played, he was not physically ready. That's why he's going back to junior.

I'd say more in the school of thought of not messing up a young player's development.

Is Virtanen ready?

For the most part. Unlike joulevi, physically, yes. However, again, unlike joulevi, he needs to mature on the mental part of the game. Consistency will be a big development goal for virtanen. You're making it sound like Olli Maatta -> Erik Karlsson isn't astronomically different. I see Juolevi having a Nicklas Hjarmalsson floor and OEL ceiling. Anything is possible to be honest especially with Juolevi. Everyone is comparing him to be like Maatta but if he becomes a player like Karlsson he's going to be a treat to watch
kenhodgejr
In 3/4 years he will replace Edler as our #1 left defence man He is smooth with the puck like Mattias Ohlund. Time will tell how his game will grow and style will be defined.

Rollieo Del Fuego
That assist was a full "no look" cross ice pass...on the tape...just plain WOW !!! Stecher and Joulevi on the powerplay would be killer....will be killeer and coming to a rink near you in 1 years time....
cripplereh
Olli might take 2 years but again we will see hope he makes it next year!!
ftmN
great pass by olli on that assist. really looking forward to following him closely this season, if he gains 10+ pounds and develops his speed/game upwards, he's pretty much a roster lock next year. Edler - Tanev Hutton - Gudbranson Joulevi - Stecher Looks good.
