Yes.  You may not have heard.

Oh, I heard, alright. I couldn't believe that Poile actually went out and signed Yannick. It seemed like a cruel joke to play on Predators fans. Same last name, same number.....the ironing is delicious.

I'm sure the same stuff being said about Evander Kane was the reason Subban was traded.

Just a few differences though

Subban while possibly a locker room distraction uses his money to help his community as opposed to Kane who shows off his money at Social Media and is charged with legal problems in the community he plays for.

Subban is a player that has exceeded his potential and has reached superstar status. Three 50 point seasons as a defense man while Evander Kane a former 4th overall has only broke 50 points once as a forward. One might argue whatever lockeroom issue Subban has but the fact that he's exceeded expectations as a former 2nd rounder shows more character than a 4th overall who hasn't exactly met expectations on the ice.

I assume Subban still has Carey Price, another star player, as a friend in the locker room. Where as it appears guys like Ladd and Byfuglien had problems with Kane despite being supportive of him while he was a Jet.

Finally Subban had issues with Michel Therrien the same coach that was fired because he was under performing with players like Malkin, Crosby, Letang, and Marc-Andre Flurey. One might think the relationship between Subban and Therrien might have something to do with the coach as well. As for Evander Kane his coach is Dan Bylsma one of the most respected American Coaches today and former cup winner so Kane is working with a more capable coach than Subban.

Philadelphia beat Gillis to the punch is what happened. Gillis had travelled up to Kelowna and had a three hour visit with Weber. If I'm not mistaken, Holmgren tendered the offer sheet shortly before Gillis showed up or during their meeting.

Had Gillis managed to get Weber into a Canucks uniform.......damn.

Not how it happened Phil. Weber was my favorite player upto that time.. I was waiting for years for him to hit UFA and sign with Canucks.

What happened is MG met Weber in Kelowna to assess Weber's mindset.  MG said there was no way NSH wasn't going to match so they discussed a 1 year offersheet, If NSH matched Weber would hit UFA the following year and come sign longvterm with Canucks.

This was the year before CBA was up.  Weber knew the league would deal with the  very lengthy front loaded contracts. This was his biggest chance to hit the jack pot. MG later said Weber was more interested in long term big money deal than coming home.. Canucks didn't make an offersheet because they knew NSH would match.

Weber signed a huge front loaded lock out proof deal with Philly. He's made 14mill per year over the past 4 years. Even the year of lockouy he made 13.5 mill because 13 mill was bonus money. Smart man. 68 mill of his 110 mill is bonus money... he's been the highest paid player in the NHL for 4 years now and will be for 2 more years.

I had his pic as my avatar upto that day.. loved the player but was disappointed with him.. I'd do the same thing as he did though... it's a business...

Well. I am mistaken. Thanks for the detailed account of what went down, WHL.

Methinks if Gillis was able to get Weber to sign with Vancouver, things may have played out much differently than they presently have.

Marc Bergevin says that there is more to the PK Subban trade than the public knows, further fuelling speculation that speculation that Subban's attitude was causing the locker room to be dysfunctional.

"I like guys who don’t like to lose. Everybody likes to win, everybody’s happy when you win. I want guys, when you lose, it gets them inside. It hurts. And then you go back to work the next day.

"I don’t want a guy who walks out of the rink thinking, “Everything is cute, everything is fine even though we lost the game, life goes on.” Yeah, life goes on, but I want guys who feel hurt by a loss."

Putting words in his head - damn that's cold.

It's neither here nor there, but if I'm PK, that mofo's house is getting egged.

i want the habs to win the stanley cup but they need to get over this "coach and the gm have to speak french" crap. the only language that matters is winning. are you telling me the fans wouldn't welcome Babcock with open arms if they had the chance?

He wasn't fired.  He was on a one year contract and they have decided to not renew his contract.

Not must difference between the two.

Either way they have decided his services are no longer needed.

Montreal Canadiens analytics specialist Matt Pfeffer was fired because he made a impassioned and elaborate presentation to the team on why they should not trade PK Subban.

I think he'll actually fit in very well in Nashville. Suits him.

It's super weird seeing Subban in that jersey. Even if he were to play another 10 years for Nashville, I would still think him in a Preds jersey is hella weird.

Nasvhille are going to win the cup sometime in the next 10 years. Forsberg, Johansen, Neal, Subban, Wilson, Josi, Rinne's got a few more years left in him. Those are some big names. And they've acquired the first 4 via trades.

Are those Bergevin's quotes?

Wow > he thinks Subban is happy go lucky. Doesn't put enough emphasis into winning...

Personally I have been involved with both "challenged" & championship teams.  My goal was always to leave the game with my head held high. That I competed my ass off. That's the measure you should want. The measure you should expect.

Funny thing - for all the over-reactions and assumptions that the Habs got taken in this deal, some pretty good hockey minds put together this blueline for the Canadian Olympic team two short years ago.

Duncan Keith—Shea Weber

Marc-Edouard Vlasic—Drew Doughty

Jay Bouwmeester—Alex Pietrangelo

Dan Hamhuis

Notable absence of PK Subban.  Gotta wonder why.  Clearly not only the Habs don't consider him the best in the game.
