Awesome get to watch a combo of Myers/dermott/schenn/poolman/bone for 35+ mins a night if these two are really being paired. Yikessss

Hey Debbie Downer, Myers is a competent top 4 dman, Rathbone has promise and Dermott is reliable. A Dermott-Myers pairing could be excellent in a shutdown role. It's not all doom and gloom. Then we have a battle for 6D between Schenn and Burroughs, both of which had great seasons last year.

Our defense is fine, and on nights that they aren't, we can either outscore them or rely on our elite goaltender.

Dermott did show flashes of being a solid player in TO, I don't see it as that big a leap that he might put it together enough to be a competent 2nd pairing guy. We need to remember just because the TO media and fans turned on him it doesn't mean he's crap. A lot of former Leafs moved on to bigger and better things.

I liked his play last year. He's not a flashy offensive guy, but he's good in his end, makes a good first pass on breakouts, and only makes $1.5m this season. Dermott - Myers pairing would give Myers some more freedom to jump up in the play more often. With Hughes on the right with OEL, that opens room on the left side to get Rathbone into the lineup.

If you think about it, it may well work out better then ever. Though he normally does draw to the center of the ice to take the shot, on his natural side, like so many others,

when a shot is taken, it's a crappy angle and often flies wild. He'll have a better angle to either shoot or pass from the right side. One thing about Quinn is he'll works on it

till it's right. To be honest, his shot from his natural side is a bit of a muffin. Change may be a good thing.

Aren't there some defensive advantages too? A forward's usual bag of tricks would be less effective against a regular (prepared) wrong-sided defensman who is smart (Quinn + +).
