Would you trade Jacob Markstrom for a year or two of Roberto Luongo?

If Luongo wants back into the playoffs, Vancouver's not his destination. At least not now. He also is unlikely to give us a chance at winning the cup for a couple of years because we don't have a good team in front of him yet.

So I'd say no. If he truly wants to win a cup, trade him to Toronto or something. Even Buffalo might be a better fit for that. Maybe Brobovsky doesn't resign in Columbus. There are a ton of possibilities for him that are better than coming back here as much as I hate to say it.

The only way he will return is if all our youngsters develops as expected (Boeser being a regular 40+ goalscorer, Horvat is as good as Mike Richards/Toews, Hughes the next Paul Coffey, Virtanen a Dustin Brown/Bertuzzi), and the Canucks just need an insurance backup goalie for the playoffs.

For the love of god, can everyone stop getting freaked out over the recapture penalty. It will not be an issue.

Yeah, because the possibility of wasting 8 million in dead cap couldn't possibly be a a problem.  Gillis was an absolute idiot for that trade and should have been fired on the spot for it.

Why would Bobby Lou ever come back to Van?

The media and a large portion of our fan base treated the guy like trash, even though he was by far the best goalie to ever play for the Canucks. Best by a mile.

Treated like crap then scratched right before the Winter Classic.

He's probably got two words and a finger for all of us.

I think it’s a step backwards in the youth movement but could work for Vancouver at least. Having Luongo here in decent form could really teach Demko a few things about the NHL while giving us a little control over how the cap penalty will play out. The real question is why does Florida do this?  If Markstrom can’t stop the first shot, why do they want him on the roster?  Who am I kidding...bring him back and plan the parade. We can’t lose the Stanley Cup with Luongo in net right?

Ouch. But seriously maybe this year move tandem for tandem. Markstrom and Nilsson for Luongo and Reimer.

Would be an interesting move. I haven’t posted a lot on here, but just so we are all clear that was a joke. The 2011 loss hinges on a lot of things (mostly goons, lack of physical response and lopsided refs/dops) Luongo was and is a good soldier out there. I for one wouldn’t mind him retiring here as Demko and DiPietro take over.

I wanted Luongo gone probably more than the average fan, but even I can admit he gave us the best goaltending we've ever had. He even played very well in the 2011 run, just not in the small handful of games that mattered most.

It was pretty wild those first few years though, he was genuinely our best player (hence the captaincy). Going toe-to-toe with Marty Brodeur setting a new NHL wins record. Man, what a time to be alive.

But we burned that bridge. He's an Eastern Canadian gone Palm trees, sunshine, and Floridian beaches... the West Coast is a distant memory for Berto.
It's sad to think that in 2009 he was literally a rockstar here. Free meals, fans patting his back all day long. Amazing how things change over time.
