Stecher can definitely hold his own on the 3rd pairing with a good matchup game being played. Its when he inevitably gets pushed up the lineup due to injuries that may cause some trouble

That's fair, I agree

Would you say this is a solid lineup as a playoff team? Assuming we get a solid top4 RHD and a decent bottom paring guy or Schenn

Edler - D from Trade

Hughes - Tanev

Free Agent D - Stecher

 Juoelevi - Schenn

IMO, we need a 'Roussel' type guy on defence who can play regular minutes and who can make the occasional forward on the opposing team accountable for their actions if you will.  We lacked a certain element to our game once Roussel went down with injury in my view.  A guy who can play a relentless, tenacious game with physicality is exactly what we need on defence.

I'm of the exact same mind. Who do you think would check those boxes? I'm a fan of trading for Brendan Dillon.

Juolevi’s ONLY chance to stick on the main roster is as a PP specialist (his skill level here is already good enough for the NHL).  Defensively, he’s Pouliot bad.  Better for him to spend a full season on the Comets to learn to play when he doesn’t have the puck.

Agreed and this has been a concern for awhile. Dorsett tried his darndest too there was just not enough support for him. Definitely a "NEED" on our team, especially with our smaller, younger players coming up. These type of players are crucial in the playoffs as well.

I am looking for a dman that can do more then "hold his own". ::D

That's tough to say. It will really depend on who fills those spots. That lineup could put a team into the playoff but we would need to see career years from at least half of them if we wanted to make a significant run.

You either draft them or hand out huge chunks of money in the free agent market (likely with a protection clause of some kind).  Doing it via trade will cost too much as D carry a premium price.

I agree we should sign Gardiner/Myers

Get a 3rd pairing guy for Grandlund / Sutter

And get a top 6 forward for a pick + virtanen/goldy + Baertschi

Pearson  Horvat  Boes

Leivo    Petey    [?]

Rousell  Gaudette  Virt
LE     Beagle  Motte

Edler  UFA

Hughes   Tanev

?           Stech

Schenn

Right now "Cap Space" is the advantage and disadvantage. It is to our advantage right now and it opens up a lot of opportunities that would usually not be available. I like our chances of getting what we need without giving up too much of anything, especially with the possibility that the Cap is going DOWN this year. YESSSS!!!!!!!::D

Robinson, Savard, and Lapoint?  Eddy, OJ, and Hughes??

Larry Robinson is one of the greatest defencemen to ever play the game.  One of the toughest SOB's as well.  Nobody ever wanted a piece of him.  Edler couldn't hold his jockstrap...

Dillon may be in the right mold but isn't a guy I can see fully meeting the need in that he's slower,  less skilled and less mobile than desired unfortunately.   Top 4/6 defencemen who are mobile,  smart and physical aren't easy to get. We don't even need much scoring from this guy if he does the rest well.  This is as big a team need as anything else imo.

Not every player needs to be fast or super skilled. Having a couple of atypical bruising players is always good for a defense. Who would you go after?

Wondering if there could be an interest-based deal to be had with Vegas.  Perhaps taking on Clarksons contract  (or another premium priced guy on a shorter term deal) and package that with Hague?   Vegas desperately needs cap space but already is flush with picks so maybe a pick swap involving Hague?  Hague isn't the exact player we need right now but projects to be that guy when our core is truly maturing. There's a couple other guys but that's a rabbit hole if you know what I mean.

We need either Juolevi or Woo to pan out or JB will be overpaying for a UfA  Dman. IMO for us to succeed, we need to have 1-2 players from each draft to be a difference maker to be a legitimate contender. The last five cup winners have had huge contributions from their own drafted players.Blues (Schwartz, Pietrangelo, Binnington, Parayko, Edmundson, Thomas) Caps ( Ovie, Backstrom, Kuzy, Holtby, Wilson, Beagle) Pens (Sid, Gino, Letang, Murray, Guentzel) Hawks (Toews,  Kane , Kieth, Seabrook,)

cant depend on UFA’s or trades to take us to the promised lad.
