I work with people who are late all the time, leave early, etc. I have only been late once (my first day of work when I got a speeding ticket!) and have never taken a sick day. Cutting the dead weight is never a bad idea. Because people who have to pick up the slack for others burn out when you don't. The only reason I bring this up is because it's fresh on the heels of my boss venting at ME when the others all took off early for lunch when I was on lunch (I answer the phones), which isn't supposed to happen (we have staggered lunches). Happened to be my birthday, which I don't disclose because I don't like the awkwardness of being treated differently/in a forced way. Anyhow...bad timing ("not TUDAY!"). So yeah, Friday's still fresh on my mind as I was not impressed and told him to direct it where it belonged. (I generally do his dirty work for him). It's all cool to take a break and stuff does happen but, when it's "the norm", it's a problem.
