funny cap friendly has it listed as Jun 1 2024?

I think Dhaliwal got it wrong, Persson was drafted out of Sweden in 2020, and generally when that happens, the rights are retained for 4 years i.e Linus Karlsson. Only if Persson was drafted out of the WHL would his rights expire in 2 years. Persson was later taken in the import draft by Kamloops a few days after the NHL draft. Since then Rick deleted the tweet.

His elite prospects page seems like that he will be playing with Pelicans of the Lliga.

He joins former draft pick Toni Utunen and Canucks property Lukas Jasek.

I like this from Vancouver is Awesome a couple weeks before your post:

It’s not a great sign for Viktor Persson that he doesn’t yet have anywhere to play next season. He’s too old to return to the Kamloops Blazers but hasn’t yet been signed by the Canucks to play in the AHL. It seems likely that he’ll return to Sweden but even Persson himself wasn’t sure where he’ll land when I talked to him at development camp.

“Not decided yet. I’m still waiting it out to see what happens. I’m not too worried about it,” said Persson. “I’m too old for the Blazers now. I don’t want to know too much — my agent is doing that stuff. I just want to focus on getting ready for the season — when there’s a paper to sign, I’ll sign it.

7th round picks are usually long shots.

Yes they are but occasionally a Mackenzie Weegar comes along and its like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Lets just hope we have a pot of gold. In Weegars case it was 5 or 6 years after his draft he started to stick with the big team and even then his production was low. Its only the last 3 years that he has made a big impact. He was a 2013 draft.
