No. It’s about Demko becoming the #1 goaltender for the Canucks within the next couple of years. Had the Canucks signed Markstrom to a 4-5 year contract, it would’ve been a total mess in 2 years. ED protection, control over destination, security as a starter and for his family to not move in another year, more term, etc, etc.... We were likely offering him close to what he got for $ in Calgary. It's all the other stuff we couldn't offer. AKA: not about money or cap. Now we just need to dodge 2 more... by avoiding longterm deals with Tanev and Toffolli. Lets not going down the Loui E road again... at least not again until it puts us over the top and gets us a cup. UFA' s that want long term retirement deals.... UFA' s that want long term retirement deals.... It is a wake up call for 99% of the UFA's....its a flat cap, unless a team is desperate you ain't getting a long term deal with a raise.
