I really like this signing!

Sad to see JM go but we all knew it was inevitable.  Flat Cap and all.

We paid Holtby nearly as much as we were likely offering Markstrom. We're also offered Markstrom likely $5m+.

People that still think this was about cap aren't following the plot :picard:

What? No.

It’s about Demko becoming the #1 goaltender for the Canucks within the next couple of years.

Had the Canucks signed Markstrom to a 4-5 year contract, it would’ve been a total mess in 2 years.

And just as importantly it's about the Seattle entry draft

Marky most likely also wanted a NMC and much longer term.  There's more to it than the number I'm sure.

Overpayment.

Holtby has been bad for a few years now, hopefully Ian Clark can fix him otherwise this isn't the ideal choice.

It’s not the ideal choice.

It’s the perfect choice.

How so? I guarantee Coiler fans would trade us Koskinen for him immediately. $4.3 mill with a 4 team no trade list and only a 2 yr deal for a guy who can still give you 40 games a year and likely win 25 to 30 of them?

Well we dodged a bullet with a potential 6 yr Marky deal....

Now we just need to dodge 2 more... by avoiding longterm deals with Tanev and Toffolli.

Lets not going down the Loui E road again... at least not again until it puts us over the top and gets us a cup.

UFA' s that want long term retirement deals....

It is a wake up call for 99% of the UFA's....its a flat cap, unless a team is desperate you ain't getting a long term deal with a raise. Would not surprise me if you see players circle back and try to sign with their old team now realizing they aren't getting a huge deal elsewhere
