Sounds like rolling the dice which shouldn't cost $4.5million. Holtby was trending down. Tonight wasn't really anomaly for him but the norm. He had a sun .9  save % coming into the game tonight.

Given how the defence plays every night, would you really be surprised? Grade A chances given up.

With Ian Clarke's help and the bet that Holtby would bounce back, pretty damn high. It's not a bad signing. His bad game tonight wasn't good, sure, but all goalies have had bad games - including Markstrom.

He has been pretty unspectacular all season

i like the guy but he has not stolen us any games and unfortunately in Green’s elite system the goalie is forced to win the game

Hasn't been really one for a few years now though.  Granted he was Vezina type candidate at his peak.

I dunno, these stats are pretty damn good though. Very consistent.

Holtby was not great in Washington based on stats in his recent years there. Benning just like to give big contracts to washed up vets...Ericksson, Beagle, Holtby, Myers. Cant even name a decent FA he signed over the summer that I would consider a major piece. Looking at the team, all of our key players are draft picks and some from trades.

Green messed Demko up just like he messes everyone up

the net needed to be Demko’s and he alternated right from the beginning of the season not allowing Demko to get any traction

This game wasn’t on goaltending, get over it bro

This is Baumer’s d zone clearing system

.... only pass up or back along the boards

don’t try to move the puck or pass in the middle because the bad man may get the puck

Meanwhile the bad man seals off the boards knowing its our system

Eriksson was not washed up at the time of his signing. That's revisionist history.

Beagle was well respected in Washington - and a fan favourite, fresh off a cup win.

Myers was a well-sought after FA. Signed on the first day because he wanted to come home.

I get that you want to put some scapegoats in, but they have to make sense though.

Tough to fault the coaches here,  Demko is playing better than Holtby.  One guy needs to take the ball and run with it and my bet is that is Demko.

Isn’t it the coach who decided not to play the guy that just got a shutout?

Yeah our neutral zone pressure seems to be non existant....

Ya the only pressure in the system is in the O-zone.

Believe it or not, Green's N/O zone metrics last season were near the top of the league.

The entire team counter punches in the N/D zones, so that's why it seems there's no pressure, because there is none.

But when the team collapses to the hashmarks, and allows completely unfettered entry, and then crisp perimeter passing, something's rotten.

True our D plays a pathetic system and gives up lots of chances. But Holtby needs to play better not just make the easy saves. Otherwise we should have signed a 1 million dollar backup since it would not make a lick of difference.

Good point and don't forgot our exit zone strategy called the heart attack...
