4.3M is not backup money.  Also a starter can’t just easily transition to backup.  It’s not the same playing rhythm and some goalies just can’t stay on their game without regular starts.  He’s probably not used to play that little with Demko now getting the bulk of the starts.

The last 10 games went

Demko Demko Demko

Holtby

Demko

Holtby

Demko Demko Demko

Holtby

Why did we sign Holtby at all? We knew Demko would be our guy and should play most of the games. If we didnt trust Demko then why let Markstrom walk? Benning should have just signed a decent backup for 1 million.

I mean on the one hand it makes it an attractive place for any new GM with job security like this.

On the other hand any GM who really wants to win is gonna look at our organizations culture and take a hard pass.

Don’t forget the part where you don’t need to speak to the media.

Like seriously where the hell is Jim Benning? I don’t see Calgarys GM hiding from the media...

Management getting ripped apart on 650.  I thought that was a 1040 thing. Talking about the 10 year "no plan" plan .

As usual, management gets the blame, but we've seen Coach Green's system over the years. This should not have been a surprise to anyone with the loss of Markstrom and Tanev. Green's system is the EXACT same as last year.

People who say this loss is on Holtby are correct but the decision to start him was Green’s

blame Travis

Green should never play Demko 3 times in 4 nights. It's Holtby's fault that he can't give up less than 4 goals a game, and especially 3 SOFT goals. When he wasn't letting goals in, he was flopping all over the place. That's on him. He's a big boy and he should know his role, but he doesn't.

The only thing management should be getting ripped for is not firing Green, which may cost JB his job

We needed a reliable goalie, just in case. If we signed some schmuck for 1 million and Demko falters, will you blame Benning? LOL. Demko's a new starting goalie. You have to insulate him with some veterans.

We cannot afford to ruin his confidence and progression with subpar goaltending. Plus, we needed an attractive goalie for expansion purposes.

JB on his third coach? I don't think you get 3 coaches as a GM. They're all gone this off-season.

Seriously - good question.

There were cheaper veteran options.

Green actually had very little good to say about the team tonight. Thank goodness. Will he take responsibility for his and his brainless assistants miscues tonight?

That never ever ever happens with Green

Benning wasn’t looking for a backup.  The sample size on Demko was too small to give him the starter’s net.  Benning talked of needing 2 goalies with the compressed schedule.  Hotlby was going to mentor Demko and give him time to develop.

He has a trash lineup, can only squeeze so much blood from a stone.  People crapped on our former coaches and assistant coaches too, they've gone on to win Stanley Cups and coach of the year awards when given quality teams to work with.
