Part of the entertainment value of this Leaf loss is listening to their media, fans, etc all blame their 'stars'.

Please keep it that way.

Don't go changing, Toronto.

Don't blame your mediocre team-builders...

Blame the two guys that had 8 pts and were +1 5on5 this series...It was all their fault.

The Leafs needed to win this series on the powerplay.  They could not / did not.

Montreal - somewhat predictably - outskated and outhit the Leafs - and had that solid 'foundation' behind their aggression , built from the net out.

The Leafs were unable to dictate the tempo of the series - and therefore were also unable to draw the penalties they needed to to win this series on special teams.

The Leafs - had an 'analyticz' 4th line - and once again, their blueline depth was exposed.

Their goaltender was their best player.

Not sure why anyone would be "surprised" - unless they've been drinking too much blue Koolaid.

Well they bet on the 2 guys to do more as they tied up close to 23m on them. Getting 0.6 pts / game at that salary is not good value.

This is a good learning point for Canucks in the upcoming years with Pettersson, Hughes, Boeser and co

As much as I love them, if they pull a Marner or Matthews, we've got to say no at one point if it prohibits us from building a solid team.

We're seeing that with Oilers as well. 2 players can't win you a cup.

Give the Leafs to Seattle and see if we can't get that expansion team. Shanahan and Dubas included in the deal.

this one is awesome.

TO is going no where with M&M.  Playoff non-performers.  They have to try and trade them and their bad contracts.

Matthews and Liljegren for Seth Jones, Boone Jenner and a pick.

Marner for a d-man. Try to sign Landeskog.

You're welcome Toronto.

Playoff rounds won since 2003:

Vancouver - 8

Toronto - 1

The best part is with the Leafs tying up half their cap to 4 players their misery should linger on for years to come.

How does the richest team in the league go 16 years without a playoff series win?

Marner is literally untradeable. His contract is worse than Loui’s.

Matthews will be headed to Arizona in 3 years. And the rebuild in Toronto will continue for decades to come.

It's always more difficult to produce in the playoffs.

Point per game players typically become .6ppg players.

Just ask that grumpy old Thornton - he knows this.  Look at the production of countless players - it's the norm.

"Defense wins championships"

It's not on a couple shiny forwards to overcome a build that doesn't recognize this.

There's no 'learning' point for the Canucks here - this franchise has never been oblivious to this point.

I'm no fan of Matthews or Marner - don't care for their attitudes, their arrogance - but at the same time - to be fair - they are not really to blame for this loss.

You generate offense as a unit - as a team - you can't simply hang it all on a couple forwards.  Those two had a slight edge/advantage at 5on5 - if they'd gotten beaten soundly - then you can lay more blame on them.

This is a team that has been exposed repeatedly - the Gardiners, Dermotts, Sandins - too much on their shoulders, and too soon...

The Leafs lost - as a whole.

There's nothing particularly surprising about it - they're not 'cursed' - they're just not a very well built team - certainly not when push comes to shove.  Whose fault is that, really?

that's the perfect negotiation tactic, show them the oilers and leafs so they know what happens when you are too greedy, then show them colorado
