I said it after game 6. If the Leafs play scared in game 7 its advantage Habs.

 

They had the look of "$&!# its happening again" from the end of game 6 to the end of game 7.

Part of the entertainment value of this Leaf loss is listening to their media, fans, etc all blame their 'stars'.

Don't blame your mediocre team-builders...

 

Blame the two guys that had 8 pts and were +1 5on5 this series...It was all their fault.

 

The Leafs needed to win this series on the powerplay.  They could not / did not.

 

Montreal - somewhat predictably - outskated and outhit the Leafs - and had that solid 'foundation' behind their aggression , built from the net out.

 

The Leafs were unable to dictate the tempo of the series - and therefore were also unable to draw the penalties they needed to to win this series on special teams.  Credit where it's due to the officials - there was far less game management in the second half of this series than I 'expected'.

 

The Leafs - had an 'analyticz' 4th line - and once again, their blueline depth was exposed.

Their goaltender was their best player.

 

Not sure why anyone would be "surprised" - unless they've been drinking too much blue Koolaid.

I suppose there's probably nothing else that they could have said other than this is an opportunity, but pre-game quotes from the Leafs sound so ominous now. Next time they get in another game 7 after a blown series led, I'm curious as to what they will say.

Sheldon Keefe: "As much as it sucks how we got here and what we've been through the last couple games ... I really feel, frankly, we're right where we're supposed to be. We're facing a Game 7 situation, a very difficult task at a time when the other team has momentum, at a time when you start to doubt and question yourself and people on the outside doubt and question you. You got an opportunity here in a Game 7 to embrace that and meet that head on and push through it."

Auston Matthews: "We've been on the other end of the stick in these do-or-die games. We would like to rewrite that script and we have a great opportunity come Monday."
