Is MTL Purposefully Tanking?

Are they taking a page from the Sens' playbook? Granted it's very early, but feel this is a fair question.

Price & Weber? Take your sweet time gents. They get to wind another season off 18 + mill AAV of them contract terms. They likely will have Weber on permanent LTIR to wind that one down. Then they wouldn't mind retaining a % on Price perhaps? Have him rested up. No point damaging his value this yr, so let him deal with whatever issues he needs to.

Should he return in good spirits(& they are indeed rebuilding, at that time), it's easy to imagine a bidding market for his services, if there were some retention, and/or Habs take back high cap contracts.

Their 2018 high pick was wasted. Bet they'd love having Brady or Quinn today. But they locked in Suzuki, & Caufield looks like the real deal.

Also imagine they very much want a top-10 pick for 2022. Leave a late 1st(Canes pick) spent to acquire Dvorak. Prob best way to move on from this whole chapter.

Now Edmundson needs time? Well that would assist a low finish too, wouldn't it? Same as Price, why tarnish this guy's value? He was excellent last season.

How many GM's would bid handsomely on such a guy in March? Bet he'll be back(& on market) at the TDL. A couple vet fwds likely will also be available.

Is this a yo yo rebuild-strategy(strong surge, then plummet)?  Over a longer time period, you could argue TBay benefited from such a tactic. Seems they would have strong seasons, then suddenly drop to land Hedman, SS windfalls. Ottawa also had a great spring, then sold items with significantly elevated value.

Interesting approach, if you ask me. If Bergevin & Habs' owner shared a handshake on this, he might suddenly start walking & talking like Pierre Dorion(from 2017-2020)times.

A Devilish-deal we'd probably all take.

So the Puck Gods ask you(perhaps in REM sleep)?.."Hey, your fav team will go 4 rds deep in the PO's..BUT the next season, injuries hit, & you wind up drafting #5 - #10 OA."

Hell, I bet 80-90% of Cdn team fans trip over themselves, rushing to sign up for this deal!

I think there will be three franchise players in each of the next two drafts.

Not sure what's up with Montreal, but for teams finishing low over the next two years, it will be worth it.  I hope that Seattle gets one of them, they really need a star in that market. Icing a lineup of Brandon Tanevs will only promote you so much and for so long.

Edmundson’s father is dying of cancer.  Christ. Does everything have to be a conspiracy?  I had to argue with an idiot yesterday that believed Price was faking mental illness to somehow help Montreal circumvent the cap

Oh relax, no one's suggested his father's poor health wasn't true. To simply stop arguing with people & labeling(on-line) offensively would prob serve your ticker well.

There's nothing to debate. Just felt like making a thread, predicting the Habs WILL finish bottom-10. Should they dial it back with a watered-down lineup, the world keeps turning. I don't mind stating such a prediction for future reflection. Makes sport more interesting.

You suggested he’s purposely being held out if the lineup just to facilitate a lower finish.  It’s absurd.  I’ll make it easy for you. Price genuinely is struggling with something and entered the employee assistance program to receive help. Weber genuinely is dealing with a number of injuries that very well could end his career.  Edmundson’s father is dying of cancer and his family is more important to him right now (I believe Boeser went through something similar and no e suggested the Canucks were purposely tanking).

Montreal is missing their starting goalie and 2 of their top 4 D.  They have a number of new players not to mention a tire fire of a 3rd string goalie backing up Allen.

Montreal’s biggest issue atm is that they’ve only scored 3 goals in 4 games.  That’s not because of some secret plot.  It’s in coaching decisions and poor play. No conspiracy. Just a very poor start to the year

How does a team collectively get together and try to lose. I don’t get that. Nor do I understand why an athlete could. A game here and there where a player is just not feeling it sure but to try and not win doesn’t compute.

The Carolina pick is likely to be in the late 20's. So their worst situation is finishing in the 11th OA spot - then the Yotes get that pick. Should their pick be #10 or higher, they get to keep it, & the Desert Dogs get the(likely later) Cane selection.

A big reason I see the Habs having a very mediocre season. Call this prediction whatever you like.

This is the kind of toxic, negative, unfounded and speculative post that seems to befall CDC on a regular basis.

It's refreshing to hear it against another team.

Obvious reasons for Montreal's lackluster start are obvious.  It's also only a few games into the season.

Carry on.

They don't. The mediocrity is achieved by dealing present assets for future wealth. That's augmenting a poor start, with many key pieces now missing.
