Cant believe we are talking about Marner at all....on the other side how will TO sell that to the fans...were getting rid of Marner and getting JT Miller.....death would happen with that fan base

I can't believe, after all these years, people (not you) are still falling for that eastern media garbage.  A bunch of wanna-be/has-been jocks sitting around microphones making up stuff so they can collect a pay cheque and people fall for it hook-line-sinker.

It's sad that the media motto these days seems to be, "made-up reports are better than no reports at all".

He doesn’t have to kick out one of those three to be on the active roster… you are falsely trying to argue that trading away three roster players and bringing back just one means you don’t have to spend any money to replace the other two empty roster spots.

We are going to carry 7 or 8 D on the roster at any given time and at least 13 forwards.  Forget the names or specific players… if you trade away some of them, you have to pay someone for those spots, you don’t just get to say you are saving their full salaries.  You are only saving their salaries minus the player that replaces that roster spot.

You're out to lunch.  If a player is in the press box and is NOT playing, and you are still paying him with the accompanying cap hit, you SAVE the cap hit when you move him.  If he was a regular in our starting lineup, that's a different argument, but right now, he's essentially dead cap.  A player that isn't playing, but is costing us cap.

Good statement by a good coach.

There you have it.

Management and now coach agree that JT is too valuable. It would have to be an insane offer for him to be traded.

Nuff said. JT is staying. Close this thread down…..

I'm starting to warm up to the idea of trading Miller for Marner.
He's only 24 years old, and already has a 94 point season. He's never scored less than 61 points in a season, and Miller never exceeded that until he was 27.
For all the talk of him being soft and disappearing in the playoffs, he's great on the penalty kill and is almost a point per game in the postseason.

We would be getting younger, and bringing in a top line RWer who can play with Pettersson or Horvat.

We could offload Poolman, and Toronto would get a RHD which they need.

Miller + Poolman

for Marner (20% retained)

Over my dead body.

I think the Miller to the Leafs rumours are kind of funny. T Leafs need D and goaltending. It's more of an Oiler move to be honest, add another forward, that'll help

Was looking for Canucks updates and it looks like Leafs fans are losing their minds at the thought of JT Miller going to their team.

Yes, because he'd absolutely share it with the media if he'd been discussing Miller trades with management, while coaching in Vancouver and trying to coach a long shot team to the playoffs

Yeah, def gonna throw fuel on that whole media fire
