I think you're overstating things here, Abby.  The covid #s in BC have been going down since the NHL season started, so there's little indication that peeps are getting infected during a game.  If players are getting the virus, it is probably rated to situations away from the game.

As we all know, Covid can infect anyone, regardless of vaccinations.  Fortunately, the folks that are double vaxed are unlikely to become very ill, which is the biggest concern right now.  This is why we have proof of vaccination codes.  The fewer interactions that the unvaccinated have with the general population (indoors), the less probability of them catching the virus (which means fewer admissions to hospitals, ICU wards and morgues).

If everyone were fully vaccinated and always wore the approved masks when indoors, we would probably be dealing with Covid more like a highly infectious flu. Unfortunately, the vulnerable folks and people that can't be vaccinated, would still be living the nightmare.

Of course, things can change rapidly when a mutation arrives at our shores.  This is why the plans/restrictions keep shifting, which leads us to feeling like we're in a game of whack a mole.:o

Everything you say here is correct other than probably the first thing.  Early in the pandemic it was shown that hockey was a particularly risky activity for spreading COVID and that makes a lot of sense.  No masks, breathing hard and direct frequent physical contact.  The contact tracing is clear as well, Calgary had outbreak, Carolina's outbreak starts while leaving Calgary and our outbreak starts from playing them.  The transmission is very likely on ice.

I was referring to the fans in the arena.  They are supposed to be wearing masks and are a good distance away from the players.  You are right about the spread amongst the players during games, but they might also get infected away from the rink.
