(Rumour) Tkachuk trade in the works

In addition to making the Flames aware that he won’t be re-signing with the organization that picked him at No. 6 in the 2016 NHL Draft, Tkachuk has supplied them with a list of teams with whom he would agree to a long-term contract, according to multiple sources. Tkachuk does have some power over where he might land, given that teams likely won't want to pay as large of a trade price for him as a rental.

One source familiar with Tkachuk’s list said that St. Louis, Vegas, Florida, Nashville and Dallas are options. New Jersey and the New York Rangers are also among the other teams that have expressed interest in the past.

And this folks is why you ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS draft BPA.  Yeah, would have sucked to be losing Tkapuke right now, but he will bring in some serious assets.  We drafted for position in OJ, and are left with literally nothing to show for it.

I think if Sergachev, McAvoy or Chychrun were picked instead of OJ, we'd all be quite happy.

This is on the presumption that Fat&^@# even wanted to play for us.  I would contend that he'd pull a Lindros on us instead - and there would be no guarantees that we'd get even close to what you'd think would be a fair package in return.

Why wouldn't he?  He played for Calgary.

No matter what, this is a bad look for the league.  If the star players in the NHL start acting like the star NBA players this is a problem.

Free agency is part of the CBA.  Teams also often treat players like pawns.

I'd argue Tkachuk still has more value than those guys.  He's a 40+ goal 100+ point scoring PWF.

The point is you draft BPA because you are drafting for value.  If the player doesn't fit the long term plans, you flip that value for something else.

I have never liked the Tkachuck family. They have all been a holes and no devotion to their fans or teammates. You can bet the other brother in Ottawa will also fly the coup in the near future.

He has 6 years left.

It's not, a la Eric Lindros, but it can become a contagion.

Well, lindros was different in that he wouldn't even play for the team that drafted him at all, but sort of. It's happened from time to time over the years , and hasn't caused a mass exodus,  so I doubt this will be any more of a catalyst than the others. erik karlsson is another good example.

Always easy to say now, but Petey wasn't the BPA either and look how that turned out.  Moritz Seider wasn't BPA but turned out great for Detroit.  Could've easily gone the other way.

Puljujarvi was the BPA before Tkachuk that year and didn't turn out great for him.  Juolevi was a consensus top 10 that year and him and Sergachev were pretty much consensus #1 D available, depending who you asked.    Was it a great pick, absolutely not in retrospect, but was it a bad decision at the time, no IMO.  Lose some win some.  Nobody is perfect at the draft.

Petey was the best person available during his draft. He was just not known as much at the time. He ended up breaking Peter Forsberg’s records in the Swedish league! All you had to do was follow him closer and that talent was obvious.

Everyone put Tkachuck ahead of OJ. EVERYONE!

Not much in the way of a return coming from any of these teams.  His ego certainly fits Vegas, but they are

really up against the cap and there under 24yr players and prospect pool is pretty slim pickings.

Shea Theodore, Nicolas Roy and a 2023 1st round pick...

Why do we bother having a scouting department then, we should just pick BPA off TSN and Sportsnet from now on…

And Calgary’s woes started when Matthew’s daddy wouldn’t throw his hat for his son in the playoffs.

That organization is full of clowns and hasn’t known character since Iginla left. You gotta love watching them go into a death spiral. “Flames” is such a fitting nickname.

Benning went and watched OJ in the world juniors and from that one viewing he overruled our scouting department.
