I'd argue Tkachuk still has more value than those guys. He's a 40+ goal 100+ point scoring PWF. The point is you draft BPA because you are drafting for value. He can basically say he wants to go somewhere with newer facilities and no one would rake him over the coals for leaving. Even Bettman said so himself after getting stuck in an elevator. Well, lindros was different in that he wouldn't even play for the team that drafted him at all, but sort of. It's happened from time to time over the years , and hasn't caused a mass exodus, so I doubt this will be any more of a catalyst than the others. erik karlsson is another good example. Always easy to say now, but Petey wasn't the BPA either and look how that turned out. Moritz Seider wasn't BPA but turned out great for Detroit. Could've easily gone the other way. Puljujarvi was the BPA before Tkachuk that year and didn't turn out great for him. Juolevi was a consensus top 10 that year and him and Sergachev were pretty much consensus #1 D available, depending who you asked. Was it a great pick, absolutely not in retrospect, but was it a bad decision at the time, no IMO. Lose some win some.
