Huberdeau was born and raised in a small town in Quebec and played his junior hockey in New Brunswick. He is as Canadian as you can get. I doubt he wants to go play in the USA again just because of the weather.

Weegar was born and raised in upper Ottawa. Played his Junior hockey in Nova Scotia. Again he is as Canadian as you can get.

Calgary has the cap space to re-sign both so I assume they will.

Them having the cap space means nothing if they don’t wanna be there. See Gaudreau and Tkachuk.

They also have no loyalty to Calgary and them being Canadian has nothing to do with anything.

If Calgary can prove they’re a cup contender then they might re-sign, otherwise they can get their money from a real contender.

1) main reason: big age differential

2) upchuk came with an 8 year extension signed until the end of his prime years, wow

3) huberdeau is not a better player, they're both elite in different ways

4) hubby criticized for perimeter play in an underwhelming playoff

5) tkachuk playoff contributor. like most rats, not perimeter at all

Doubt age had much to do with it.  Huberdeau is an incredible skater with some of best hands in hockey.   Even 4 years from now, Huberdeau is still a better skater than Tkachuk.

Tkachuks lack of skating will hurt the Panthers within a few years.

Comparing two American players to two Canadian players born and raised in the Maritime provinces is quite the stretch.  Contrary to popular belief not every NHL hockey player wants to play in the USA and not all of them only care about the money or about winning a Cup.  If this was the case then Vancouver wouldn't have signed any free agents ever.

Yes them being brought up in the East and playing in the Maritimes has everything to do with this.  It is the same with Swedish players, who love coming to Vancouver.  OEL had a NMC and only two teams were on it.  Vancouver was one of them.  He could have waived to go to any American team but he wanted to come here even though we aren't anywhere close to challenging for a Cup.

Some guys do care about where they want to live and raise a family.  Some people think that Calgary is a sh*t hole City.  Those people have probably never been to the USA and seen the likes of Detroit, Chicago and other cities that make Calgary look like paradise...

Amazing how different the fan reaction is to Tkachuk leaving vs Gaudreau just saying "later". Tkachuk is a rat for sure, but at least he gave the team an opportunity, and the team got a huge haul considering it was a forced trade.

This is true.  At least Tkachuk was honest with them and gave them an opportunity to trade him and get assets back.  Little Johnny basically lied to them and ran away like he does on the ice whenever there is trouble and didn't even allow Calgary a chance to recoup some assets.  In this case Gaudreau was the little rat...

Chicago's actually a pretty nice city, and Detroit has some decent areas.  Calgary is an absolute dump filled with inbred morons; it is the perfect location for the Flames.

Huberdeau had to either waive to go to Calgary or he purposely left Calgary off his no-trade list, meaning he would be okay going there.

Agreed! Florida has done quite the opposite.

Florida is just wrecking their club. They had the potential to be the next lightening and just gave away two legit core pieces in Huberdeau and Weegar for an overrated player whos going to be a lucic level skater in 3 years

That doesn’t sound very good.

Why?  Huberdough had talks with Florida about another contract and the Panthers clearly didn’t like the dollars he was asking for.  Then, Tkatchuk (who is a much more impactful player off the puck) comes available, so they move on him.

Huberdough could have stayed in Florida if he was reasonable in those early talks.  Too bad for him.  Hope he likes plugging in his car this winter!

Cowtown is more like brown and grey most of the winter, but the point stands.
