we've got 9 games left--- down by 12 points to Winn and have 1 game in hand to them.

we could get a possible 18 points

+ they have to get less than 6 points out of a possible 16.

any thing is possible, but it's hardly likely.

AND this is only figuring with Winnipeg not counting the Flames, Predators or Blues.

For the sake of the discussion, Canucks will finish ahead of the Blues and most likely the Flames ... Predators are 50/50 ... it is all about Winnipeg which for the record, I think will get in over Flames / Predators / Canucks / Blues.

I'll assume the OP is correct. But WTF happened to mathematical elimination ? I thought it was over 2-3 months ago ?

No, if all of Flames / Predators / Blues / Jets lost the rest of their games (by way of example - not a likely scenario), then the Canucks are in with a record of 6 - 1 - 2 or some other combination that gets the Canucks at least 14 points ... so mathematically not eliminated but practically are (not counting any tie breakers).

Another problem with the list of current wild card chasers is that they are set to play each other multiple times.  The Preds, Flames, and Jets all play each other twice, plus one Preds-Blues game.  So that is a guaranteed minimum of 8 more points spread amongst those teams we are chasing.

Chances are Winnipeg stumble into the playoffs, they have a tough schedule but I see them winning at least 3 of their final 8 games, maybe they go 0.500 if they're lucky but they really suck right now. If they win 3 games, that takes them to 91 points.

The Canucks sit at 73 right now with 9 games left against some decent opponents. If we win every game we end up with 91 points and miss out because of regulation wins.

Obviously we won't win-out, but we might do as well as go 7-2-1 down the stretch which is realistic. That would leave us 3 points shy of the playoffs. Last year we were what, 5 points out?

Has to beg the question then - why didn't management make the coaching change say 10 games earlier? We'd probably be in the playoffs...

The Canucks' tragic number is 6 ahead of Tuesday's games.

They can reach at most 91pts if they win all their remaining games and Winnipeg, in wildcard 2, has 85pts.

The Jets are at SJS tonight - if they win that tragic number drops to 4 (or to 2 if the Canucks lose vs St Louis).   If the Jets lose it stays at 6 unless Vancouver also loses then it drops to 4 (or 5 if an OT loss).

OMG!  Have you been drinking the jeremy davies drinking GIF by American Gods Not a hope in hell we'll make the playoffs. It will take more than  Jesus Christ Power GIF

And you can thank the same players (who recently started to actually earn their keep) who failed to put any effort in at the beginning of the season - for this mess!   They do the same thing every year and why most should be traded!

San Jose of all teams is the most likely to lose out the season.  They have rocketed straight for the bottom and are now the favourites to win the Bedard Bowl.  They wouldn't screw that up just to give Vancouver hope...
