Benning is gone. We all need to take our PBSD pills. They actually have a plan and are not morons.

This management still has to iron things out though. The PR last season was a nightmare and it's clear Rutherford didn't anticipate how things work in a Canadian Market.

This years centre free agents.

This years goaltending free agents.

To get one third line centre will cost us about $5.15 million.  To get a quality back up goaltender will cost us about $3.25 million.  To get a top 4 defenceman will cost us $6.25 million.  This is based on current UFA's, their expiring contracts and the contracts of comparable players that have signed in the last 5-6 months.

The 3 positions of need we have to fill the most will cost us about or around $14.4 million.  The caveat to this is we need two top 4 defencemen.  While in free agency we may be able to fill these roles with quality players on the potential cheap, about or around 410 million is the lowest possible amount this will cost this team.

Let us speak of cap space again.

So I guess +/- is only relevant when its used to bash a player from the Leafs :P

I never look at +/- for any player.  Unless a player is -30 on a team that has a +75 differential lol

Things to think about

Trade Beau as we have Hogs to take his place.

Myers might be a deal or tdl.

Johansson and Woo start the season here plus McWard.

Replacing OEL

Hirose,Wolanin Briesbois

3c could be Amen bring up Sasson as a C or just use Joshua.

Trade for one with Garland,Rathbone and 4th.

We can make things work.

1.  The most cap relief comes in the first year, when the Canucks need it the most.  In subsequent years, the cap is expected to go up a lot so the pain will be mitigated by that.

2.  It's pretty clear that there is no market to move over paid players or otherwise poorly allocated cap on their own such as Boeser, Garland, Myers, Beauvillier etc.  Management has deemed that the cost of moving such players would be prohibitive by stripping the team of draft picks or young assets like Hoglander, Podkolzin etc.  These are things that the Canucks are still, 9 years since Benning was signed on, in short supply of prospects in the pipe line.

This is a case of, you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't.  At least they now have some wiggle room.  Here's hoping that they use it wisely.

I’ll get over it, but… what a dumb move at face value.

any money we spend this year wipes out what we’d be gaining next year.

I guess there’s a way to benefit if this helps us leverage the league wide cap crunch but holy hell this hurts for a long time.

The 2 mil or so will hurt but HEARING ABOUT IT will be the worst part.  This ensures Benning discourse into 2030.

What a major bummer.
