Master List of Connections Travis Green Has Around The League

Hank Moody

Recommended Posts

Thought this could be a fun little exercise to get us going through the offseason.

When Willie D came in, we all saw the infamous Medicine Hat connections that were instantly injected into the lineup. Players like Linden Vey who played under Willie, Emerson Etem, Derek Dorsett, Curtis Valk.

Management has shown they are willing to bring in players the Coach thinks would be a good fit based on their past coaching/being around those players. A lot of people are saying they like Travis Green, he's a really likeable guy, they enjoyed playing/being under him. It's not inconceivable to think there might be some connections that pay off in the near future.

His most impressive stat line is his record when leading. The biggest thing for the Canucks under Green will be to get the lead.

Wow, that actually is huge considering the Canucks would usually get picked apart in the 3rd.

I mean if Ray Ferraro (Who hates everybody) raves about him so much, i'm sure he was.

Interesting thread HankMoody,  as I went through your list, thought to myself that it would have been great to have had Shane Doan here when he was "courted" to play in Vancouver by Mike Gillis,. not only would Doan have helped with our mentoring of youth at the on-ice level... but like Travis Green,  what a great Coach Shane Doan might become somewhere one day.

"The six degrees of seperation" rule is definitely previlant in North American Hockey.

Super interesting resource. It is great insight into how some of the coach and  GM relationships fit together as a network. It is no secret that some GM's are trading buddies. The first person they call, the one that they spitball with the most. There are obviously people that feel more comfortable chatting, and then end up being the teams with which we  most often see trades.

A decent portion of that can likely be attributed to networks like this. A big chain of "Played with. Played under. Coached." GMs that are more comfortable calling each other, because they used to play together. Being influenced by coaches that are more comfortable asking for certain players, since they used to coach them. Interesting to see.

Alright, so I went deep on this one, but bear with me.

In 87/88, Butch Goring coached Green on the Spokane Chiefs.

In 2012-13, Green coached Brendan Burke.

Brendan Burke and Butch Goring make up the NYI broadcast duo.

More legitimately, he also coached Paul Bittner and Sbisa (assistant coach).

Great find!
