Good that Baer cleared. Still dont think he shouldve been sent down in favour of Eriksson/Schaller but atleast hes still in our system.

Let him get some games, get his game back, then bring him up. He can still help this team.

I think this was the plan all along. They wanted to get him actual playing time and he wasn't going to get that on our roster in the top 6. Management must have had a good feeling that he would clear through and they'd be able to re-call him when he gets his game back up to 100%.
For all this hate on Schaller, he's still a good 4th liner that'll kill penalties for us and be physical. Eriksson isn't playing to start, so he's not even a factor in this IMO.

Glad Baer didn’t get claimed.  Hope he can find himself down in Utica.

Utica, by the way, who should be a whole lot more fun to watch this season!

Exactly. Both the Canucks and the Comets have improved, which is the goal, in the long run

Yeah, and Lind and Gadj et cetera are going to have to really push to get a call before Goldy or Baer.

Schaller isn't good in either role. The idea that you bottom 6 has to be filled only with defensive-minded (read: offensively inept) forwards is dead... or at least needs to die in the minds of some coaches.

I'm not saying the bottom 6 should be defense only; just that Schaller and Baertschi are two different players and that I don't think either would excel if they were expected to take over the other's job.

If Schaller could get back to the 10 goal level he had in Boston, that's good offensive production for a 4th liner.

For his sake would have far preferred he be claimed and able to continue his career in the NHL.

They've been trying to trade him this summer already.

And nobody wanted any of these guys (that we know of), and now that they are exposed their true current market value is more obvious - maybe in a month when teams have injured they’d be happy to take a chance on one of these guys.   Slipping Bear through waivers might be strategic - maybe he hoped someone would pick him up to clear a little cap space.... or maybe they want to start with more toughness available to them until Rousell is back .... if they both make it through (clock still ticking but not for long)  then we keep our depth and all these guys have to prove their mettle again to get back in.   JVs also nearing the end of his road IMO.

This is what people do not understand, there is a pecking order and clearing waivers proves where they stand. We have players who are now bumped lower on the wrung, such as Virt, and again people will be up in arms if he is moved too.

The main goal is to make the team stronger and this might mean that some players have to move on, such is life.

I was hoping they were picked up because Utica should be filled with "up and coming prospects" and not players who could not hold there jobs with the big club IMO.

That's a really good point about Utica.  Having Schaller and Loui play third and fourth line in Utica (or sit in the press box) will not impact our young prospects' development.  Having Baer and Goldy does.  JB said Baer and Goldy must play top six.  This whole scenario seems like a big mess.  Utica will clearly be a better team (in the short term) and win more games, but what about the development of our young guys?

Benning decided to loan Gagner to Toronto because he didn't want Gagner to take ice time away from prospects.  Do the same and find another AHL team for Baertschi.

A winning environment is good for the development of young players too. Playing with players with more skill is a benefit too.

Are we playing our young guys in the bottom six down there?  Clearly Baer and Goldy are not bottom six players.  JB said as much.  Loui and Schaller would play bottom six down there, and still help the team win.
