[Discussion] Canuck’s Prospect Rankings #1-10

Recommended Posts

My rankings as of now: (along with tier/groupings of how I selected them)

1. Vasili Podkolzin

2. Nils Hoglander

-

3. Olli Juolevi

4. Tyler Madden

5. Brogan Rafferty

6. Kole Lind

7. Micheal Dipietro

8. Jack Rathbone

-

9. Jett Woo

10. Zack MacEwen

Next up: Utunen, Lockwood, Focht, Tryamkin, McDonough

- Put Juolevi #3 b/c, if he hits he's still got the best upside of that group, goalie aside.

- Debated Rafferty as low as #7  - due to age (comp to Lind/Dipietro) - but he's more of a sure bet, & he's played very well of course.

- Not sure what Rathbone could be in the NHL, if anything at all. Maybe I'm sleeping on him but, he's a wildcard for sure.

- Woo's stock has dropped but still has bottom 4 NHL tools.

- MacEwen is getting older, not sure he's got the upside of some who just missed, but he's already played vs other being projects, so...

Ill wade into this.

1 Podkolzin

2 Madden

3 Hoglander

4 Woo

5 Juolevi

6 Dipietro

7 Rafferty

8 Lind

9 Rathbone

10 Macewan

Dark horses

11 Keppen

12 Focht

13 Mcdonaugh

14 Silovus

I must say I'm very happy IMO there are at least 5 players on this list who will have more than a cup of NHL coffee.  Not Bad considering recent graduates Pete, Hughes, Demko, Gaudette.

Here is what I feel these guys have for potential:

Podkolzin- Top line

Madden- Top 6

Hoglander- Top 6

Lind- Middle 6

Juolevi- Top 4

Rafferty- 4-6 D

Rathbone- Probable NHLer

Woo- Probable NHLer

Dipietro- Lower end Starter

The guys below I see as call ups, replacement level players, or AHL lifers.  maybe 1 or 2 stick, but every team has guys like these:

Keppen, Focht, Mcdonaugh, Silovus, Lockwood, Sautner, , Teves, Jassek, Chatfield, Bailey

I feel pretty confident that we have another 7 or 8 solid NHL level prospects in this group, which is outstanding.  I feel Hoglander, Madden, and Podkolzin have the potential to be impact players.

Thanks @BCNate

excellent post.

It's crazy to think that we still have a prospect pool this strong in place. Forward-wise, we're set for the next decade.

We have graduated 4 all stars in Horvat, Boeser, EP, Hughes, and a legit goalie prospect in Demko, and still have our deepest pool we have ever had.  That is not to mention Virtanen  and Guadette as well.  Benning will go down as the best GM we've ever had when it is all said and done.

If he did we would have to watch about 30 hfcanucks morons act like lemmings and all jump off the Lions Gate Bridge one at a time. Hopefully y2kgoof 1st.

That would be kinda funny......

OK.....my turn

#1...…. Podkolzin                            The guy is as advertised. High end motor, IQ, hands, physical, he will prove he should have gone higher........TOP 6

-----------------------------------

# 2/3.....Madden/Hoglander             These 2 are in the same grouping for me. Both small ultra skilled players, if they make it.................................Top 6

-----------------------------------

#4/5...…Juolevi/Rafferty                   Different players...different skills.....same chance at making it, which both will...................................................3/4's

-----------------------------------

#6...……Rathbone                            I actually think Rathbone has a chance of being a 3/4 along with Juolevi and Rafferty.......................................3/4

#7...……Lind                                    From what I am reading, I kind of put him in the same ilk as Gaudette.......high end motor, aggressive..............Middle 6

#8...……Woo                                    Another guy who's ceiling is a 3/4, floor 5/6......too early to tell which.........aggressive....................................... 3/4/5/6

-----------------------------------

#9...……DiPietro                              Showing well in his 1st pro year..........is he big enough?........ceiling ....................................................................Backup

10...……Bailey                                 Love his size.......dark horse ...................................................ceiling.....................................................................Bottom 6

-----------------------------------

11...……McEwen                             dark horse 4th liner

12...…....Brisebois                            bottom 5/6/7

13..........Sautner                               bottom  6/7

14...……McDonough                        Could move up a lot next year......did Madden drag him along for the ride?.....To be determined

------------------------------------

15...……Focht                                  To be determined

16...……Jasek                                  To be determined

17...……Lockwood                           To be determined

18..........Linus Karlsson                    To be determined

19..........Gadjovich                            To be determined

20...…....Keppen                               To be determined

21...........Costmar                              To be determined

22...........Silvos                                  To be determined

23...…….Utunen                                To be determined

-------------------------------------

24 ..........Palmu                                 This guy could never be seen again, or could be on the big club...personally, I would love to see him come over and try.

That's all I got!....................................Still not a big believer in DiPietro, I hope he proves me wrong!

No love for Utunen anywhere?   He is still only 19 and while he may never score often (unless it is in O/T against Canada), he moves well, has good zone exits, uses his body well for leverage and hitting and generally seems to be a workhorse.   I am not sure he makes the NHL but he is certainly a solid candidate to at least get a peek at some point.
