Loui was good tonight and if he hadn't put his hip out we could have won.

He played as he should at Leivos goal. Something that we need. So in my view he is valuable as depth and those times Green change strategy from the dump and chase  to more possession.

If only we had a few of these players.

is myers ever going to score or at least get a point? What has it been over 20 games at least since he’s got an assist! And he’s NOT a stay at home defensemen who uses his size. He makes the same as Eriksson yet everyone just bashed Eriksson non stop and says nothing about Myers

Sure he hasnt added offense on the stats line - but despite this is only a -2 on the season (third passes don't count).    What was Hutton the last couple years again (referring to another post)...your constant picking is tiresome.   One of the loudest voices after a loss.

I hope all the Edler haters watched the game closely and noticed how the D just is not as solid with him out of the lineup

Explain why we didn't blow the lead the night before after he was injured?

Edler is a microcosm of this team. One minute he plays like a Norris calibre d-man, next he suffers a brain cramp.

I'm not a hater. He just is frustrating. It would just be great if he made some better decisions, that's all.

I missed the game.  Loui injured his hip?  Is it bad; I mean REALLY BAD?  Is he going on LTIR?

No but you should've seen the other guy. Totally destroyed. Easily LE biggest hit of the year considering the guy made a complete 360 while screaming in agony.

I haven't time to read all ten pages of comments, but I haven't seen anyone comment on this:  There are two payers in the league, that I have seen, who "set up an office" on the power play. Ovechkin sets his up on the left and Draisaitl on the right. They both let their team draw the defense on a power play over to the opposite side, and then they get an open pass and slap shot it home. My question is why do the Canucks not keep one player watching this move? Last game versus Washington, I saw Ovechkin open for a shot at least four times, and last night, that is how Draisaitl got his two goals. In basketball defense we would call it a box and one, here we should use a triangle and one, with one person watching for that pass. Petterson used to do that for the Canucks on the power play, but you can see that the defense is much closer to him now, and he isn't as open.

I would say both of Draisaitl's goals were results of broken plays which caused players to be out of position, so as they were tracking back the pass went against the grain. Also when McDavid is on the ice, you have to respect him. And to be fair, Draisaitl only had 1 PP prior to tonight, so it's not like what they've been doing has been very effective which means more focus has to be on McDavid and even Neal with his 10 PP goals so far.

Ovechkin is actually quite active and then just quietly sneaks into his spot while the play is being developed by other players of quality. Our PP kind of runs through EP more often than not (between him and Hughes) so the attention is generally drawn to him. Boeser has been a bit snake bitten and our passing hasn't been crisp to find him open for a solid opportunity so teams haven't had to respect as much this season so far. Our PP isn't even firing on all cylinders and yet still 4th in the league, not bad IMO.

I wonder if drai would have scored twice from roughly the same spot if Edler was covering the left side on the pk.

I knew as soon as Loui took those penalties that people in here would be blaming the loss on him. Yes he needs to watch his stick and he definitely took a step in front of Nurse there, but on both occasions Nurse should've got an embellishment call as well. You can't blame the loss on him though as both were pretty borderline and he was one of the better Canucks over the weekend.

At the end of the day , their PP showed why it's the best in the league. Hard to stop McDavid and Drai even when we aren't missing our best pkers.

Lots of positives to build on going forward. They outplayed Edmonton in both games and hopefully they can carry the momentum

Just someone explain to me why....

we didn’t get the powerplay after the Boeser goal (double minor turned into a minor)

we didn’t get a powerplay after the goalie interference call.

oilers are trash and will always be, hiding behind McDavid’s and Nurse’s whining.

i wholeheartedly respect Draisatl and his excellent 2-way game. He’s top 5 without a doubt.

I think since Boeser was on his knees that it wasn't really a high stick in that sense. Boeser made the sacrifice for the goal there. Unfortunate, but I'm fine with it not being a penalty.

The goalie interference was simply not allowing Markstrom to be in position. He wasn't run over or anything. The goal was disallowed, I'm fine with that.

The two LE penalties were a bit weak, but LE put himself in the position to be called. The only gripe might be these plays seem to happen all game and some get let go and some don't. The embellishment could have probably been called as well though, but I suppose because Nurse did fall to the ice then they justified it not being so.

I didn't like that hit on Tanev wasn't called, but Nurse had a bit of a can opener by Virtanen that wasn't called either. The reffing was inconsistent (what else is new?), so it's a bit hard to blame strictly them.

Calls go both ways every game. Refs are only Human.

While true, ifs funny that when the refs screw up they are only human, but when LE screws up, he should be hung, drawn and quartered... See the paradox....

Not a huge fan of LE, but the pens called against him was very weak, so to hang him out is ridiculous at best... He not been good the majority of the season, but the last two games were not the problem... Regardless of his 6mill price tag.

Don't buy the 'tired after road trip' excuse.  That is on the coaching staff to manage minutes and the game.  Yes, Vancouver because of location has further to go but all teams face long trips throughout the year.  However, now that trip is done let's get back to some 'smart' hockey.  Petey and Boeser need to step up their games.  They are getting knocked off the puck too easily.  The powerplay, just like it was with the Sedins, has become too predictable.  The second unit has more success lately because they shoot and storm the net.  Maybe Green should put Hughes on the point with the second unit and see what happens.  And yes, I agree with need to get our gritty players back into the line up soon.
