Yea id die for oates to come and be trotz assistant.

Our prospects could do nothing but turn into gold.

I'd say it'd be the other way around, based on experience if nothing else.

Something like, Trotz as head coach, Oates as associate coach OR offensive coach / PP specialist

Except that Oates needs a lot of work on learning how to develop talent. His track record, albeit small sample size in Washington, is not exactly glowing.

Retaining Gulutzan should solve that issue.

So I work at a Source For Sports down in Whiterock and there have been rumours swirling from people who know the GM's and front office of the Canucks that once Benning is introduced he is going to bring on Trotz and the deal is Trotz wants SHEA WEBER to come along with him to the canucks so the Canucks are gonna try and package a deal with NSH that would include KESLER and Weber as the centerpieces of the trade .. now this is all speculation but the people at my work do know a lot of people in the Vancouver Front Office.

Please don't do that.

I know a guy who knew a guy who was in Penticton in 92 and got his stick signed by Hrudey AND Jagr....

This is a bad thing to start and nobody wants the knew a guy heard a thing rumours

Anyone can make that connection if we hire Trotz...just don't be that guy.

Never gonna happen.

Not only cause Kesler wouldn't waive for Nashville, but Nashville won't trade Weber.

Speculation re: Trotz/Weber/Trade is fairly easy to conjure, regardless of whatever made-up 'insider' info is out there.

There's no doubt that we have interest in Shea Weber. But so does every other team.

Perhaps Weber is traded elsewhere and it'll be spun on how we 'lost out', making that a story option too. We'll just have to wait and see.

The dude messed up for sure, in time. However, the prospect of signing Messier to play with Mogilny and Bure, at the time was seen as a stroke of genius. However short lived.

Then came the C event.

Linden traded to NYI for Bertuzzi, McCabe and a 3rd (Ruutu).

McCabe and 1st '00 (FLA from Bure trade) for 1st '99 (CHI - 4th overall)

1st '99 (CHI - 4th overall), two 3rd picks to TBL for 1st '99 (TBL)

1st '99 (TBL) to Atlanta for 2nd overall (ATL)

Canucks pick 2nd '99 (Daniel), 3rd overall (Henrik)

Bertuzzi, Allen, Auld to FLA for Luongo, Kraijcek, 6th selection

Luongo to FLA for Matthias, Markstrom.

The Messier event is still paying off dividend.

In hindsight, Messier isn't so bad...

He was, is and always shall be a 'doosh-nozzle' in mine eyes, so save your research, please ..

As others have said, don't be that guy with the friend of a friend rumour.

Not to mention we don't have a GM just yet so unless they have ties to Benning related to when he played here, related to where he lives in Portland or related to Boston I'm sure they haven't been talking to him. Maybe they've been talking to someone in the front office otherwise, but unless it's Linden (or maybe Henning/Gilman) I doubt there's validity to it.

Very glad this is now confirmed, really hoping that Benning starts now aka before the draft. Anyone heard any rumours or details about that? Inbeforewaituntilfriday

Dreger supporting the idea on Team 1040 that Benning will be "hands on" GM of the Canucks for the remainder of the off-season and right into the draft. Doesn't sound like they'll be a grace period for Boston.

Read this on HF, looks like good news if true.

If Trotz is hired, I hope the Canucks look at acquiring Ward from Washington.

He'd be a great addition to the second line IMO. Put up 25 goals last season and comes cheap at 3 million. He played great under Trotz too, especially in the playoffs.

Why would Washington trade him?

Makes no sense for them.

Benning is a good fit and Trotz has had the good fortune of having an all -star d man anchor his team and cement his employment.

Let's hope the Canucks secure an all star d -man as their first move during or after the draft.

I would advise you not to believe everything you hear. Are the folks talking fellow employees or customers?

If they know a lot of people at the Canucks front office, can they provide you with a name?

I'm not going to be self righteous and tell you not to be that guy, because in the end it's your choice to post what you want. You may draw the ire of some though. And they are an unforgiving lot.
