Ghostsof1915
I guess that's why the sent Bourque to the minors?
Chronic.Canuck
What... I thought Dallas needed MORE defensemen. Or was it RHD?
BanTSN
Dallas easily wins this for cash reasons alone. Not the first time Montreal traded for a crap contract, but at least they didn't burn a top-notch prospect like McDonagh in the process.
timberz21
I guess that's why the sent Bourque to the minors? Still, I don't think they get much cap relief for that move, because of the new CBA rules. Weird move by MTL, I know their PP is struggling, but still not Gonchar who's going to kick start it. bigbadcanucks
I guess that's why the sent Bourque to the minors? Right. Habs move a forward to get a defenceman and someone questions whether this had anything to do with Bouque being sent down to the AHL. So 2 forwards out and 1 d-man in...yup makes perfect sense as to why Bourque got sent down. Bourque has a cap hit of $3.33M regardless of whether he plays in the NHL or AHL. He got sent down because he's playing brutal. Obviously Bergevin thinks the back end needs to be upgraded. Beaulieu is probably the odd man out. CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Renaud Lavoie @renlavoietva 1m1 minute ago Stars are keeping 400 000$ of Sergei Gonchar salary in that trade. So Gonchar cap hit in MTL will be 4.6M$. I still dont like this trade for montreal...doesn't really make sense since they have several PMD's on that team. Nuxfanabroad
So Gonchar's off the books after this season, whereas Moen has another yr of 1.85 mill/cap. Perhaps Bergevin moves a D-man like Gilbert now(2.8 mill)? There's market scarcity/demand for D, at this time. Or even, maybe Emelin? Probably lots of consideration for next season's hovering cap-scenario.

Mimerez
I remember seeing a video a while ago, with Nichushkin relying heavily on Gonchar as another Russian speaker. Kind of a blow to Nichushkin..

These guys can always turn it up in the playoffs and become contributors. If they have the cap to burn and Moen wasn't cutting it I don't see how that's a bad move. johngould21
How is it that Moen is still in the NHL? And to top it all off, he's still got a contract for just under $2M, great GM'ing.
desiboynux4lifee*******
good pick up, they get a powerplay specialist. Its obvious dallas didn't need him they are stacked on the pp. Montreal will now have pk.markov and gonchar on the pp units.
Nuxfanabroad
I recall skepticism over Gonch's defensive commitment over 5 yrs ago... QUESTION: With this CBA, can Mtl retain ANOTHER chunk of his cap(eg:1 mill), then deal him to a 3rd team?(so 3 teams would be paying him)..5 teams could do this & whittle him down to lil' pieces!! ;^)

Not the first time Montreal traded for a crap contract, but at least they didn't burn a top-notch prospect like McDonagh in the process. there's only 500k difference between what Montreal takes and what they send out. Moen is pointless in 10 games, has some pretty bad underlying numbers to go with it, and has been made expendable by the unstoppable Dutch Gretzky. There is no easily identifiable clear winner in this deal at this point. It's a dump for dump in different forms.
