Xbox
For anyone saying that Lou has been meh recently in NJ, you seem to forget thats one of the least profitable teams in the league and, IIRC, the team with the lowest amount of funds. What was he supposed to do? The team gave him no flexibility.
Pears
The fans hated and still hate Sather. He made a lot of terrible moves, like the St. Louis trade. There was a public rally a couple years ago trying to get him fired. The Rangers are good now sure, but Sather did a lot more bad things to the Rangers than good. Yea. He pretty much gutted the Rangers' future. Got royally bent in the MSL trade.
Amish Rake Fighter
The fans hated and still hate Sather. He made a lot of terrible moves, like the St. Louis trade. There was a public rally a couple years ago trying to get him fired. The Rangers are good now sure, but Sather did a lot more bad things to the Rangers than good. He also just finished trading away four 1st round picks in a row, he holds the record by a mile for idiotic free agent signings that ended in buyouts (Holik, Gomez, Redden, Drury, Kasparaitis, etc...), he overpaid Girardi and let Stralman go which partly forced him to let Hagelin go, he dumped a lot of character and grit for No Show Nick Rash, etc... People have been calling for Sather's head for years, without Lundqvist, he would have been gone long ago. The NHL is better off without that buffoon constantly throwing the salary structure out of whack. I don't know if NY has anything left to trade for a playoff run but I think there are some dark days coming in Ranger land. edit. I'm watching the presser live, Good Lord it's weird seeing Lou with a blue and white Maple Leaf next to his name (not to mention the New England accent), it's like seeing Linden in an Islanders jersey
C.Schneider
Anyone who says they saw this one coming is going to hell for lying. Glen Sather benefits from the fact that he's in New York and most athletes would never turn down the chance to be a star in the Big Apple. So you're saying it will work out for Lou, since most athletes would never turn down the chance to be a star in the Jr. Big Apple.
TheRussianRocket.
But honestly, Leafs have built an exceptional managerial hierarchy. Vuori, Hunter, Lou, Dubas, Babcock, Shanny...that's class. Now it's all about how they'll work.

theminister
David Conte hadn't done much to help Lou Lam in the last few years and that has what has hurt them the most on their roster. In TO Lou will have a cap team and a decent evaluator in Hunter. They are rebuilding so the mandate will be different. It'll be entertaining if nothing else. RunningWild
Doesn't sound like a good fit, unless Lou has changed his way of doing things. He's an old school silo, they've got young advanced stats guys and new age things being implemented. Should be interesting.
-Vintage Canuck-
@reporterchris: Lou Lamoriello signed a three-year deal with #leafs.

Rush17
This feels like it came out of left field. Like all of Toronto's signings up until this point. Maybe he will be the perfect fit. time will tell. Edit: He's been the big dog in NJ for a long time. Curious to see how he handles "partial" responsibility.
Langdon Algur
Linden Benning Desjardins (1 Assistant GM Cup) or Shanahan Lamoriello Babcock (3 players Cups) (3 GM Cups) (Tripple Gold coach (1 coach Cup)) Let me guess the answer: We don't need Cup winning individuals in Vancouver. We're retooling, wish we were rebuilding, we don't need a T1D, we don't need #1 Miller. Let's tank for the next McDavid who should come next decade. Torts won a Cup, didn't make him a good coach in Vancouver.
Canuck Surfer
Stop gap. He will be the GM for a year or two until Dubas is ready to take over. Makes sense he would retire sometime soon. Good move IMO. Show Dubas (and Shanahan) how to run the admin & hockey departments. It will be interesting to if Lou is a triggerman once he suddenly has a budget? (It took 10 years plus for Sather in NY).

He's an old school silo, they've got young advanced stats guys and new age things being implemented. Should be interesting. Before his owner forced the Kovalchuck contract; Lou had a tight fisted reputation for many years. They had a playing style, a game plan, and his team was always full of the players that style needed. And coaches for that matter. Plus Lou had his ears close enough to the ground to know when any coaching train wreck was coming. Installing Robinson bear the trade deadline one year was legendary! tocnhockey
Good luck to Lou and the Leafs organization, hope they can turn it around. I just don't understand all the drivel against the Maple Leafs, especially since the Canucks are ridiculed by the media and other fan bases......he who laughs last, laughs best. Realtor Rod
why didn't he just quit after Shero was named GM? Why retain the position as President and not just leave? Also isn't a President to GM like a demotion? ppay cheque or 3?
Crabcakes
If Lou's going to show them how to set up and run a front office it might be a good idea. Somebody has to. Lou drafted Shanny so presumably, they have a decent relationship. I'd like to know how extensive his role will really be. Will he be like what Scotty Bowman is to the Hawks or will he be in total charge? Will their relationship be more like Linden and Benning? A good mix of skills and experience levels can work if everybody gets along.
