Popular Post Harvey Spector Posted June 24, 2017 Popular Post Share Posted June 24, 2017 (edited) So we drafted a potential #1 centre, a potential top 6 RW to compete with Boeser and Goldobin, and we also drafted a tough, hard nosed gritty go to the net LW who can protect our smaller players. On top of all of that we drafted our token Italian, a goalie no less who can bring back the memories of Bobby Lou. All that and apparently JB sucks and should be fired because he didn't take the guy who can't skate and fell to 11 and the guy who's projected as a #2 centre. Go figure. But we took Virtanen the big guy and look at Nylander and Ehlers who are smaller but quicker and better in today's game, and then we take the smaller Pettersson but look at Glass and Vilardi they are so much bigger and are NHL ready... At the end of the day these are 18-19 year old kids. Who knows how they will pan out in 5 years. For all we know Nico Hischier could be a bust. And Virtanen could turn into a 25 goal scorer. Whoever thinks they can predict the future is lying. Yes it is a shock to some but Benning's board may have been different than yours. I know that's tough to swallow but it's the cold hard truth. Benning spends the entire year watching these players, talking to them and to their parents, he's basically a draft guru so when he makes his selections and they don't follow the TSN big board he's an idiot. In Benning we trust. I am happy with the draft so far. I didn't think JB would take Pettersson at 5 either, but I trust Benning the scout to know what he is doing and if he feels Pettersson has #1 centre potential and Glass and Vilardi do not then I will go with the flow and see what happens. Agents do a good job teaching the kids on what to say these days. A couple drafts ago I remember the commentators talking about how part of the agent's job these days is to coach them up on what they'll need to say during their team interviews and what to say after being drafted.
