Sorry, but in terms of skill, Pettersson is above and beyond Dhalin.

Completely different players. That's like comparing Forsberg and Lidstrom in skill--it doesn't make a lot of sense. There's much more demand for skills over brains in forwards than defenders, so it's no surprise to see such traits in forwards over defensemen.

Was just watching a couple of Pete’s highlights from this week,.

noticed that in the game in Colorado when he went through his legs, outside dangle, backhand pass to Goldy,.   At The next stoppage in play, the MUSIC cued before the puck drop was this beauty,. Perfect for the moves Elias had just performed..

Except Pettersson has both the skill and brains.

Totally agree that it’s not even close PETTERSSON is playing fabulously as a number one center.  Dahlin is (now) struggling as a defender.  Even his own teammates are talking about how their defensive play needs to improve.  Big article on Tsn where ?Sam Reinhardt and other Sabres call out their team’s poor (soft commitment) to defensive play.  Dahlin is in way over his head, and he’s one of the reasons why their team is falling in the standings.  Pettersson is a far better player.  Canucks are great!  Dahlin is going to go back to Sweden in two years.  Book it!  Tick took, and all that other stuff!  Canuck’s board!  Get the hell off it, if you’re another team’s fan!  Your team’s all suckaroo, and your prospects are bustaroo!

Isn’t there a Sabre’s board, where their fans can go and pump the tires of their players?

Alf, there is no doubt Pettersson is our franchise player moving forward, however not really a need to bash another teams star prospect.  Dahlin will obviously be in the NHL in two years.  He may in fact even win the rookie race. Enjoy this young crop of players Alf, they are a truly special bunch.

Dahlin being bad as a rookie? How many points should a rookie Dman get before hes considered solid NHL material? Its always harder for a D to make it in the NHL since u cant rack up points like a forward. Im impressed by dahlins stats and hes got loads of potential. Hes only 18 y old so....in two years when hes same age as petey, how good will he be by then? Completely redundant to do rant down  on him in any case. This years calder is EP40 by miles. Sure Dahlin can get better and better but Petey is so far ahead in the race for the calder its ridiculous. We can always compare Dahlins stats with hughes stats as he becomes a canuck and starts racking up the points, and then notice how good are these players that are considered top D Rookies.  For now im just looking forward to every game when EP40 plays, way more then Dahlin or any other rookie. Its like waiting to see something that will wow u every time. Just enjoy the ride...i know i am anyway.

You can't really compare a defenceman to a forward though, they have different jobs on the ice. You can compare Dhalin to Hughes and Pettersson to Eichel if you want but Pettersson to Dhalin is a long shot.

I think Peterrsson is a better centre than Dahlin is a D-man, if that's what you'd rather hear :P

As an 18 year old yes but what will Dahlin look like wheb he is the same age as Pettersson?

Who actually knows, for sure?  Dahlin could end up a bust, or much more likely be a damn fine d- man for a decade, he might end up being a dominant number one d for years as well.

you pays yer money and you take your chances.

Yep. Dahlin is having an outstanding 18 year old rookie season,  He's currently got 30 points in 54 games,  he's currently 7th in NHL history for points amongst 18 year old D (2 points away from moving top 4).  He's on pace to finish just behind Bobby Orr.  He's so slick and controls the play which is crazy to think that a 18 year can do, it will be fun to watch him as he reaches his prime.  It will be super scary for canadians to think about how him and Petty are going connect with each other the next olympics.

It was pretty cool to watch him in person for the Buffalo game even a game he “didn't do much” he was so smooth with the puck, no panic, crisp smart passes. Maybe one mistake all game which I don't even think resulted in a shot against.

Very special player to have that poised at 18 years old.

does his shootout goal tonight count as a goal in the stats? Can never remember if they count

Nope, shootout goals are independent from regular stats.

For the Calder race, I get the feeling that maybe he won't be winning it.  Because he rocketed out of the gate early, it seems that unless he is scoring a hat-trick or putting up 5 points per game, he isn't garnering any headlines.  2 assists tonight?  Ho-hum....

The recency bias, Eastern bias.... I think it might be Dahlin that wins the Calder, unless Carter Hart puts up a string of shutouts and drag Philly into the post-season.

EP40 hit 50 points tonight on his 45th game of the season. Interesting to note that Peter Forsberg had 50 points in his rookie season only having played 47 games that year. Within the last two decades, EP40 sits 3rd in points per game for rookies with 1.11 currently, behind only Ovechkin and Crosby, and just in front of Malkin and McDavid.
