Big year for Woo 22 turning 23 yrs old in July.. He has had so many injuries and 1st year pro we had Covid so slow development. I watched him close January 6th he looked okay stay at home RD nohing flashy in that game..Sure would be nice to have Woo turn out to even be a future #6 RD Man..

I know it sounds pessimistic, but at this point I don't expect Woo to have even an 'average' career in the NHL. If he ever makes it to becoming a regular NHL'er, great - power to him and his work ethic/commitment. But at this point I'd be surprised if he became an NHL regular. 1

If they are trying to groom him to be more of a stay at home, Harold Snepsts type of player! He doesn't have to be noticeable as long as he's defensively sound.
Captain Canuck #12
I see Burroughs and Woo as very comparable players. Both about the same size, not tall but fairly solid. Both right-handers, both tough as nails, but neither offensively gifted. Is there any reason to think that Woo has better upside than Burroughs? I would hope so, but not sure there is. If Woo became a solid 3 RD, a great defensive specialist who can kill penalties and play with an edge, I'd be pretty happy with that. Not everyone is going to be an offensive dynamo, I personally think they are trying to groom him into that type of presence, which can take time, he needs to settle into his assignment. 1 1
Angry Goose
Really keen to see how Woo has been doing. Bear would be an excellent comparable in terms of the type of player youre hoping he can develop into.
stawns
it's all going to depend on who the next canucks coach is and what he looks for in a player. He's on the fence at this point in his career, for sure...........he could be a Bear or he could be a Briesbois
canuckpuckluck1
I would be ecstatic if Woo became a defensively reliable 3D. Someone who could be depended upon to stay at home and cover for Hughes, OEL or Bear, a solid counter balance to the offensive defenders in our system. I see that as a win. Currently the Canucks dont have that balance and are getting torched defensively. I love Shenns heavy game but his foot speed really is a concern. Hopefully Woo can fill this role shortly and is faster and more agile on the ice.

In Junior, he was expected to be an offensive player who drove the play inside the oppositions blueline. I very much believe that the Canucks are trying to simplify his game down to being a solid, physical D who can punish opposition within his OWN zone while having offensive upside at the other end, when the opportunity presents itself. That type of transition is not something that happens in a week or even a few months, it takes work to get most players to settle into a specific role and fully engage it. This kid has solid upside, 2 RD or 3 RD, but I don't think we will see him in Vancouver until the feel that he has really settled into that role, absorbed it and ready to handle much bigger opposition in the NHL. All things being equal, I would pull him up for a day here and there and park him in the press box, tell him to watch Like Schenn and possibly even have him practice with Schenn a little, take some pointers. A Younger Luke Schenn is who we need this kid to become IMO

I think he has to either make our team next season or clear waivers to go back to the AHL. So it’s either with the big club or he likely gets claimed.

You are correct that he requires waivers at the start of next Season. Just verified. Not sure he gets claimed if he hasn't progressed, really depends if he's showing significant progress. I haven't personally watched him play, and anyone who has, generally report that he doesn't stand out, which isn't a bad thing for a stay at home D.

He might clear, but he is a young and developed right shot D with lots of potential to get better, who plays with snarl. I could see a team claiming him. I’m hopeful he earns a spot on the big club, even if it’s as the 7th guy. Hate to lose him after losing Gadjovic and MacEwan

Hate to lose him after losing Gadjovic and MacEwan If he can really focus himself through the last part of the season, he has a chance to be our 7th guy starting next year. If not, we waive and live with the consequences. Usually if you waive on a day when there's a LOT of players getting waived, they generally pass through. Any team claiming him would have to be able to fit him on their active roster. Considering how this season has gone, you wonder how many teams would want a player that ISN'T making the Canucks defensive roster...lol 2

dpn1
I watch a lot of Abby Games and I think Jett maybe a lot closer to being ready than some give him credit for. I think he is a better call up on the right side than Julsson at this point. 1

Ray_Cathode
Woo's defensive game really coming along this year - the whole team's defensive game is much improved - even though the guy that should be the top prospect on D (Rathbone) has been hurt pretty much all this year and plays like a guy that has lost his confidence.
