Canucks finish in 29th place. Same old story...injuries, goaltending sucks, and there's a serious lack of NHL depth at foward and D.

Canucks win the draft lottery but go from 3rd to 2nd. Since they are hosting Bettman throws them something.

OJ gets 35 games, and Demko gets 10 games. Demko looks good, OJ looks below average with sheltered minutes.  EP makes the team and looks good but there's a lack of strength and he plays with bums. Does not win the Calder.

- Dahlen, Pettersson and Eriksson form a line.  It becomes our 2nd line from a scoring perspective.  Dahlen is noticeably the lesser player to Pettersson, but does well.  Same with Eriksson who has a resurgent year.  Finally.

- Horvat and Baertschi continue to progress with career years.  Boeser continues to do his thing.

- Juolevi makes the team but does not impress in any significant way.  CDC echos with trade sentiment while he's still worth something.  He doesn't get traded and nor should he.  He's just entering the league and needs some time to adjust.

- Gaudette takes a step up and ends up on the team. He isn't spectacular, but shows well in the position he is given.

- Palmu shows that he will be on the team soon (like, next season soon) as an important bottom 6 role.

- Demko gets some time in the NHL but ultimately doesn't take over any starting role.

- Horvat is named captain.

- There will be injuries, but it won't affect us as much due to decent talented depth.

- We will look decent at times, but finish at around 27th.  Scoring goals will be challenging again and our goaltending will continue to be questionable despite a couple of runs of decent games.  Overall, our goals against is actually better than the year prior.

- Stecher shows well and has a far better year than last.  He is used as the PMD we don't actually have and does the best he can with the role.

*Subject to change depending on camp.

Canucks finish somewhere between 14th and 24th.  I'm going to go out on a limb here and say 20th with 86 points.  Improved performance from last year.  5 on 5 the team is better due to a lack of Sedins and some better bottom six players on the roster.  Only EP and OJ make the team out of camp.  EP takes some time to adjust but is coming along nicely by the end of the season - 40 point season moving up and down between the top two lines.  OJ shows better in the NHL than anticipated, but it's a development year more than anything.  He turns out to be a solid contributor on the PP and works hard on improving both 5 on 5 and defensively.  Demko gets a number of call ups but Nillsson steps his game up big time and takes over starter in goal.  Some of the other young players work out well in Utica, some not so well.  The ones who do well get called up fairly regularly.

Sept. 28: Thinking more toward 24th now.  EP 50-60 points, but not so sure any more that 5 on 5 will be ay better.  OJ and Gaudette maybe a half season each.  Hutton has a better season, Stecher too.

If we stay healthy

Petterson 18G 49A = 67P

Bo Horvat 30G 35A = 65P

Boeser 34G 37A = 71P

Virtanen 18G 19A = 37P (If he doesn't play on a line with Sutter or Beagle) Otherwise 10G and 8A = 18P (Worse than last season)

Leipsic makes team gets 36P

Loui Eriksson sucks for another season

We finish dead last in the league I'm just going to be straight up and honest. Hope I'm wrong

Canucks come out of the gate strong and remain in the top 10 in the league after the first 20 games. Sutter gets injured between games 20 and 25 and the Canucks go on a 5 game losing streak. Virtanen gets the flu and unknowingly distributes it through the locker room. The team is then made up of a large portion of Utica for a month and win a few games, but ultimately fall out of playoff contention by February. Jim Benning proceeds to sell off vets for picks at the deadline and the Canucks finish 24th and lose the lottery, but stil get a top 10 pick

Hughes going back to college means we have no offense from back end.

Our highest scoring D man will get 35 points.

Bo will be our number one center. With the extra time he will get 60 points.

When your best center gets 60 points and your D is anemic when it comes to offense that means you will be a bottom 5 team.

We will hopefully be better defensively but not because of our D but because of the addition of Beagle and company.

When injuries hit and they always do we will be dead in the water.

Unless the new kids on the block light it up we will be dead last in the league.

The pressure on Benning will be enormous and he will be getting both barrels from the owners. I am hoping he dosen't start trading pics for help.

My guess is that we will have new management by the end of the season.

Pettersson wins the Calder.

Virtanen scores 15 goals, 30 points. Boeser drops 35 goals. Bo drops 25. Baer drops 20.

Eriksson finally breaks out and drops 50 points. Sutter hits 40 points.

Edler and/or MDZ out at the deadline. Nilsson as well to make room for Demko.

All assuming we are somewhat healthy.

-

Realistically Tanev and Gudbranson both break their pelvis sitting on the plane during the early season road trip. Hutton and Pouliot move into the top 4 again. We get roasted. Bottom 3 in the league, drop 3 spots in the lottery, we all collectively cry.

The usual suspects of this site won't make any predictions and wait for the season to end explaining it went exactly how they thought :)

We'll have a bad team good start until Christmas where we start thinking about the draft again

We'll miss the playoffs again no picks at the deadline (but not trade picks either)

Bo will be captain unless the nucks have the ridiculous notion to give it to Sutter

EP will have flashes but will not be strong or durable enough to be in contention for rookie of the year. He'll need patience

Defense will be bad, goaltending will be blamed

The new signings will not be memorable in any way

Bo and Boes welcome the new offense minutes and continue putting up the points. They both improve over last year.

Petterson is paired with Goldobin and /or Baertchi and they benefit with legit 2nd line points

Virtanen continues to grow and shows a little offense in his game.

The new FA's improve the PK and free up Granlund and Sutter to put up better offensive numbers.

Gaudette starts in Utica as does OJ and Dahlen.

One of Poiliot or Hutton is traded before the season is out.

Markstrom improves with the new goalie coach and Demko outplays Nilsson by the trade deadline and Nilsson is traded.

The PP is improved with Boeser/Petterson/Bo. Edler finds out there is life after the Sedins.

The team plays a more cohesive/assertive game. The team is beginning to build character and start to learn to play for each other.

A new Era begins.

Reserved. I'll be back to post either during pre-season or right after it. I did remarkably well last year in this (considering the overall difficulty), so here's hoping I can do well again.

09/30/18:

(Edited 10/01/18 for Gagner waiving)

Here we go:

2018-19 Canucks Stats Season Predictions Gagner Waive.png

Comments on my predictions:

Forwards

B. Boeser – Starts off slow, but does pick it up by mid-season. Still ends the year with a notably lower points-per-game than last year, but does pass the 30-goal mark.

B. Horvat – Becomes what most consider to be the best player on the team. Despite Boeser scoring more goals and points, Horvat’s complete game and leadership lead most fans to think of him as the team’s best player. Leads the team in scoring (both goals and points) until Boeser catches up in February.

E. Pettersson – Does not disappoint in his rookie season. Becomes a key part of the powerplay and the primary setup man. Finishes 3rd in Calder voting. Leads the team in assists.

S. Baertschi – Is grateful to still remain on the first line and continues to mesh well with Horvat and Boeser. Also works well with Pettersson on the 1st PP unit. Very slightly increased offensive production compared to last year. Misses a few games due to injury.

N. Goldobin – Has a somewhat breakout year. Still plays a streaky game, but shows far more consistency than years past. Also proves to be a much harder worker now.

B. Sutter – His game suffers a bit with Beagle taking some of his role away. He shows some dissatisfaction throughout the season and frustration with his role. Still has a decent season, but not quite like his previous two years.

L. Eriksson – Has a slightly worse year than last year, but still better than 2016-17. Still much maligned by fans.

S. Gagner –  Gets periodic call-ups and is okay, but doesn't play well enough to merit him staying in the lineup.

B. Leipsic – Settles nicely into a bottom six role and provides a much-needed spark.

J. Virtanen – Somewhat disappoints by not becoming the point scorer some hope. His abrasive style gets him a suspension at some point in the season and he also suffers from some injuries. His point production (per game) is still a bit up from last year. Will take tons of dumb penalties and end up with 150 PIM.

J. Beagle – Performs as expected. Misses 11 games from minor injuries. Fans love his defense and hard work; he's basically Ryan Johnson 2.0.

A. Roussel – Can’t provide the offense he used to, but still provides the grit.

T. Schaller – His 12-goal season looks like a flash in the pan, as he struggles to be noticeable on the team. He’s a healthy scratch fairly often.

D. Archibald – Gets called up due to injuries. Has good flashes, but then disappears.

B. Gaunce – Called up due to injuries and shows more offensive flair than before, but is sent down again due to competition.

M. Granlund – A similar Granlund to last year, but settles more into a defensive role.

Defensemen

A. Edler – Regresses a bit again, but not to the lows of his worst days. Still remains one of our best defensemen.

T. Stecher – Has a big bounce back year and wins the Babe Pratt trophy because fans like to ride the hype train of young players.

M. Del Zotto – Starts to become a healthy scratch as he works his way into Green’s doghouse. Produces on offense, but has horrid defense.

C. Tanev – Is our best defenseman, but only plays 48 games due to his annual injury woes. Leads the team in +/- with +6.

B. Hutton – Has a big bounce back year, but still doesn’t perform super well. A step in the right direction though.

D. Pouliot – Trades healthy scratches with Del Zotto (and sometimes Hutton). Can’t provide consistent play all year long. Has flashes of offensive brilliance, but then they fade away again.

E. Gudbranson – Continues to be polarizing. Still can’t put up points to save his life, but provides a much-needed physical presence.

A. Biega – Used for injury call ups. Same old Biega.

Goaltenders

J. Markstrom – Is about the same as last year. A little more clutch in tight situations though.

A. Nilsson – Just as bad, if not worse than last year. Somehow has 6 OT/SO losses in only 26 games played. Cannot be relied on in clutch situations at all.

T. Demko – Plays in three games near the end of the year and shows promise. Nilsson leaves via free agency in the summer and Demko is the planned replacement. Demko is also the AHL’s top goaltender.

Other Comments

The Killer Bs line and Pettersson are about the only exciting things about the Canucks this year as they cruise to a worse record than last year. They finish very similarly to last year with slightly worse goals for and goals against numbers.

End up finishing 29th in the league and “winning” the 5th overall pick. Fans complain about it because they don't understand lottery odds.

The team is plagued by injuries as only Brandon Sutter plays all 82 games and only three players play 80 or more games.

Utica makes the playoffs but is eliminated in the 2nd round.

Canucks special teams are solid, but 5-on-5 is brutally bad. Powerplay finishes 12th in the league and Penalty Kill finishes 15th.

Gaudette, Palmu, Dahlen, and Juolevi are left in the AHL despite fans clamouring for them to get an NHL shot.

The Canucks go with three alternates for the year in Horvat, Edler, and Sutter. They’ll name Horvat the captain at the start of 2019-20.

TSN has articles all year about how badly the Canucks are rebuilding. The Leafs are knocked out in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Green starts to become disliked by fans, just like what happens to every coach in history.

baertschi 20 goals 20 assists. Traded at deadline for a late first

Goldy 20 pts 10 goals 10 assists. makes the team out of camp. shows positive signs of growth. Takes over top line duties with bo and boeser down the stretch.

Juolevi. Starts with comets. First call up when d man goes down with injury at the end of October. Stays up the rest of the year as the revolving d injures continue. Shows he can be a legit top 4 d and Benning trades. Delzotto and tanev at the deadline. 4th plus meh prospect for del. And a 1st for tanev. Tanev plays every game not getting injured and his stock rises because of it.  Edler won't wave.  Beginning offers edler an extension with no protection he says no and decides to finish his career in Sweden. Hutton has a come back year. Learns to throw his body and starts to skate the puck smoothly again. Demko looks great in camp. Trade Nielsen for a 4th or 5th. Markey and demko split the crease 60-40 for markys favor. D down the stretch

edler stecher

Juolevi hutton

Poulite guddy

Biega

31. Ottawa
