[Signing] Ducks extend John Gibson

Good deal imo. 920 save percentage over the last 3 years, his GAA took a hit last season but overall he is a really solid goalie. Scary thing is how up and down some goalies can be. I dunno about giving goalies more than 4-6 year deals but I tend to worry needlessly about things. If he keeps up his current play it's a really good deal.

Gibson flies under the radar but he's one of the best goalies in the league. This past playoffs is the only time he was maybe a bit disappointing, but the only reason the Ducks even made the playoffs was their goaltending. And the year prior there was a good chance Gibson and the Ducks would have made the finals but he got hurt.

miller actually had a better season

and was signed by the ducks because gibson was a bit erratic in his time with them

Had they played Miller in the playoffs, they would have gone much deeper. I'll take Miller 300 out of 10 times over Gibson.

We really should trade back for Miller. Markstrom for Miller + 2nd. Getirdun

Miller was good but he wasn't quite at the level of Gibson, especially when the workload is factored in.

Gibson isn't erratic, quite the opposite, he's been remarkably consistent.

you are correct about the workload

but that is all

the stats do not support your views otherwise

miller had as many shutouts, a better win percentage (based on game starts), better goals against, and a better save percentage

so your opinion lacks substance

A lot of money for a goalie who has not stepped it up in the playoffs.

Jonathan Quick's stats:

2009-10: GP: 6 W: 2 L: 4 // GAA: 3.50 SV%: .884

2010-11: GP: 6 W: 2 L: 4 // GAA: 3.16 SV%: .913

I wonder what happened in 2011-12...

I wonder by how much.   Given the number of years and the AAV, his current size is probably not enough to justify the contract.   Perhaps if he is now 6'6" and a bit more "chunky" to fill in more of the net the contract will make sense.

Backup goalies play against weaker teams
