[Signing] Marcus Johansson to Buffalo. 2 year $4.5 AAV

Recommended Posts

Great signing.

would have been perfect contract for the Canucks if we could move Sutter.  I would give up an asset with Sutter and or retain some contract.

Then johansson could have played top 6 or if Gaudette struggles moved to 3rd line Centre and then move Baertschi to top 6.

Hurry up Benning and clear some space!  The Canucks can do the same principle if they sign Dzingle or Ferlund except JT Miller being the backup center.

They've certainly improved in a lot of areas they were deficient.

I wonder which team wins the Risto sweepstakes!?

We could have exactly what they need.  Retain 50% of Sutters deal with Tanev for Risto and a pick.  If we could somehow convince Tanev and Sutter to waive.

Thats a very shrewd move imo.

It is shrewd - and it's also one thing that could help a team like Vancouver, considering a few of the spots they were looking to fill, ideally were filled with shorter term placeholders that could make way for guys like Juolevi, Woo, Podkolzin etc.  The Benn signing is one - and they could still potentially add a short term placeholder type to compete for that 2RW spot.  Edler's contract is probably another one that was significantly effected in term by the looming expansion draft.

Expires right before the expansion draft.

Seems like a lot of UFAs that aren't necessarily in the protection tier are opting to keep their control over their destination open that summer.

pretty good strategy. Looks like its not just GMs that learned from the Vegas experience.

Seattle is still going to do well and have a decent team,
